What are the responsibilities and job description for the Varsity Football Head Coach (12 Month Position) position at Fleming?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Varsity Football Head Coach will be a 12-month contracted position (salary commensurate with both education and previous experience), and will additionally be paid the following annual stipends:
- $5,600.00 stipend for head football coach duties
- $5,000.00 stipend for duties associated with weight room activities and scheduling.
Essential Functions:
- Coach the high school varsity football team.
- Build and maintain a sustainable, winning football program by organizing and directing the activities of the assistant coaches from Middle School to High School.
- Teach fundamental football skills to student athletes incorporating the appreciation for its traditions and values of sportsmanship.
- Assure that all student-athletes are eligible to play and enforce the academic tutoring plan for Roanoke City Schools.
- Participate in the evaluation of all football coaches in the relevant high school and middle school football programs.
- Develop and/or expand relationships with WFHS athletic booster club and community-based athletic organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- The head coach must work in the building.
- Three to five years of experience as a head football coach or assistant football coach in a high school, collegiate, or professional football program.
- Successful record of accomplishment in creating a high-quality football program.
- Strong values of leadership, sportsmanship, fair play, and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Able to serve as an ambassador for both the school division and the football program in the community.
- Hold all certification(s) required for coaching high school football, and meet all coaching requirements of VHSL, RCPS, and/or other entities with standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The preferred candidate will possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license at the high school level and meet standards for highly qualified under Every Student Succeeds Act. Working in a teaching position in order to coach is not a requirement, though it is preferred that the individual be employed in some other capacity within the school building.
