The primary function of a Special Education Paraprofessional is to support and assist the special education/general education classroom teacher in implementing IEPs for an individual student or group of students. The support provided to the student is directed by the student’s individual plan. The paraprofessional is responsible for reviewing and assisting the student(s) to complete tasks as assigned by the classroom teacher. We are currently looking for 3 Paraprofessionals, one for each of the buildings listed above.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience with school age students in a structured setting paid or volunteer preferred
- Experience with or knowledge of educational, behavioral, social, and affective needs of emotionally disturbed learners preferred
- Must pass all background checks
- Individualize instruction for students needing guided practice, reinforcement, or enrichment opportunities under the supervision of the classroom teacher
- Provide activities for a small group of students to enable the classroom teacher to work with an individual or small group of students
- Refer problems that are affecting the student’s progress in school to the classroom teacher/case manager
- Follow classroom management and procedures under the direction of the classroom teacher and school
- Assist in the consistent implementation of behavior management plans for students
- Assist teacher in providing inclusionary activities
- Assists students to and from school buses/vans ( as appropriate)
- Aid as needed in all classes to which the student(s) are assigned Records specific behavioral data to chart progress in behavioral/social areas as directed by the case manager
- Discuss the student’s progress and any problems which are affecting the student’s progress in school with the special education case manager
- Assist in the administration of tests; monitor of tests and support Carries out eating/social objectives during lunch/recess
- Facilitates social interactions among students in the program Implements teacher modifications for class activities and/or conducts alternate activities according to the IEP
- Follow classroom management and procedures under the direction of the classroom/special education teacher and school
- Share non-instructional duties with the classroom teacher to include preparation of instructional materials, attending to physical needs of students, etc. Support students in a general education environment, if applicable.
- Assist with the physical needs of disabled students, including transfer to and from wheelchairs, positioning in the classroom and specialty mobility needs. Training provided as needed. (for LSS para positions)
PAY RATE: $15.02 - $16.45 based on education
Note: Employee is responsible for cost of clearances and physical.
