Your Mission in This Role 🎯

We’re recruiting a Product Compliance Specialist to help ensure the products Flat River Group brings to market meet applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. This position will work closely with the Product Compliance, Vendor Management, Sales, Logistics, and other internal teams to review product requirements, obtain and evaluate vendor documentation, manage compliance certifications, and identify and resolve compliance issues.

The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of consumer product regulations, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership of complex compliance matters from identification through resolution. You’ll also have the opportunity to research emerging requirements, educate vendor partners, improve internal processes, and help build scalable compliance practices as Flat River Group continues to grow into new product categories and markets. Join our team and play an important role in helping us expand our product selection while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and operational excellence.

What You’ll Get to Do 🛠️

  • Apply SME-level knowledge of, primarily, the product compliance requirements of imported goods into the US under the CPSA and EPA TSCA Chapter 13.
  • Identify incoming products which are subject to regulation and classify appropriately, utilizing shared product trackers.
  • Request and obtain compliance documentation from vendors and review to ensure the products are compliant for the U.S. market. If a document is rejected, the errors must be identified and resolved.
  • E-File compliance certification data within the CPSC’s product registry.
  • Work closely with the Logistics Team and our Broker to ensure the E-Filing process is completed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Product Compliance Team to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and create or update process documentation.
  • Grow with the company – be able to research and learn the compliance requirements for new business segments and new jurisdictions.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results.
  • Educate vendor partners on retail customer expectations, creating best-in-class reference documents. You will educate and inform, receive, review and submit documents provided, while handling defects and solving compliance issues.
  • Work with the Compliance Manager to invent and streamline processes and requirements to enable Flat River Group’s Retail Supply Chain to expand product selection and availability.
  • Develop best-in-class processes, systems, and standard operating procedures as well as drive continual improvement.

Skills That Make You Shine ✨

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex regulatory and compliance information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate requirements clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly when managing compliance documentation, testing records, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and influence others across departments and with external partners.
  • Creative and solution-oriented thinker who can identify practical approaches to compliance and product-related challenges.
  • Demonstrated determination and resiliency when navigating complex regulatory requirements or resolving compliance issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common business software applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Experience That Sets You Up for Success 🚀

  • 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance, Import/Export, Product Safety, Product Testing, and/or Product Development.
  • Experience with U.S. regulatory requirements and consumer product safety regulations, including CPSIA, CPSA, and applicable testing processes.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting third-party product testing documentation, including reports from CPSC-accepted laboratories demonstrating compliance with applicable ASTM and CPSIA requirements, as well as corresponding Children’s Product Certificates (CPCs).
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulatory requirements, such as California Proposition 65.
  • Experience with product compliance documentation and CPSC eFiling requirements.
  • Experience working within one or more of the following regulatory environments is preferred: consumer product safety, food, drug and cosmetics, toys, electronics, import regulations, private-label product development, EPA (TSCA/FIFRA), FDA, and/or DOE requirements.
  • A combination of regulatory compliance and project management experience is preferred.
