Responsibilities
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret complex financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
- Conduct detailed audits, including internal controls and compliance reviews, ensuring adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements.
- Manage tax planning and compliance activities, including tax accounting, Wills, trusts & estate law considerations, and estate planning strategies.
- Oversee corporate accounting functions such as general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable processing, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Support mergers & acquisitions by performing due diligence, financial analysis, and integration of financial systems.
- Utilize accounting software like QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and other financial tools to facilitate bookkeeping, financial report writing, and financial analysis.
- Assist in regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with securities law and other relevant regulations.
- Provide insights into financial concepts such as asset management, private equity, investment analysis, budgeting, and financial planning.
- Collaborate across departments on financial sales initiatives and support non-profit accounting activities when applicable.
Skills
- Proven experience in public accounting or corporate accounting with a strong foundation in accounting principles and finance concepts.
- Expertise in estate planning, tax experience, regulatory compliance accounting, and technical accounting practices.
- Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and other financial software platforms.
- Strong analysis skills with the ability to interpret financial reports and perform account reconciliation accurately.
- Knowledge of securities law, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), Mergers & Acquisitions processes, and non-profit accounting is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, GAAP standards, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ability to perform detailed account analysis while demonstrating strong attention to detail in balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger management.
- Effective communication skills for preparing comprehensive financial reports and interpreting complex financial data for diverse audiences.
- Experience with payroll processing, budgeting techniques, asset management strategies, and financial planning tools such as QuickBooks or Xero is highly desirable.
