What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ag Lender position at Flanagan State Bank?

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The Ag Lender is responsible for developing new business, structuring and closing ag loans, as well as maintaining and servicing an existing portfolio. This position represents the bank in the local community through active participation in community affairs and participates in marketing all of the bank’s products and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prospects for new business through centers of influence, general calling, and involvement in the community.
  • Takes applications, gathers the appropriate financial data to support credit decision or prepares and sends loan package for credit decision, closes loans.
  • Manages an existing loan portfolio, including originating new loans, performing annual renewals, cross-selling and managing credit problems.
  • Maintains positive customer relationships through frequent interaction and provision of information and resources helpful to the customer’s operation.
  • Performs field inspections of existing and potential agricultural customers to verify the adequacy of collateral securing the credit as well as to evaluate the general management and condition of the operation.
  • Works with the Head of Ag Banking to develop a marketing plan and set growth and cross-selling goals; executes marketing plan and achieves established goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge of ag lending programs, industry trends, operations and methodologies, and complies with laws, rules, and regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Current knowledge of ag products and services and ability to effectively explain them to customers; Knowledge of credit operations, farm production methods, farm products, and farm business/management/finance.
  • Basic knowledge of all bank products and services offered and willingness to refer clients/prospective clients to other departments.
  • Strong marketing and business development skills; self-motivated and driven.
  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices and their application to credit delivery.
  • Strong skills in judgement, decisiveness, analysis, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide customers with courteous, friendly service, which exceeds their expectations while processing transactions promptly, efficiently and accurately.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position operates both in a professional office environment and out traveling to call on customers in rural areas. May be occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Constantly required to hear, talk, write, read, keyboard/computer entry, reach, stretch, work under time constraints with needed ability for task management flexibility and to perform routine duties with attention for details. Constant abilities used/required on the job are mathematics, memory, reasoning, estimating, problem-solving and exercising judgment.

Constantly stand, walk or sit, while requiring oral and written communications with co-workers, customers and transactions with guidance available.

TRAVEL:
This position requires up to 20% travel. Most travel will be during the work day, though occasional after hours, overnight, or weekend travel may be required.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. This position may require long hours and weekend work.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the functions of this job.
