What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Planner / Buyer – Sourcing & Materials position at Flameco Industries Inc.?
Flameco Industries is looking for an experienced manufacturing professional who can help us improve the way planning, purchasing, material availability, supplier sourcing, and customer delivery work together.
We know strong supply chain professionals can come from different backgrounds. Your experience may be primarily in production planning, purchasing, strategic sourcing, or a combination of all three. We are open to finding the right fit based on your strengths, and as our organization continues to grow, there may be an opportunity to build more than one role within the team.
This is a hands-on position for someone who understands how the full manufacturing process connects. You should be comfortable looking at the backlog and production requirements and asking:
What needs to be built? What materials are required? What are we missing? When will it arrive? Do we have the capacity to complete the work? What could prevent us from shipping on time?
What You’ll Do- Turn sales orders, backlog, forecasts, and customer requirements into clear production and material plans
- Review ERP/MRP requirements and make sure materials are available when production needs them
- Help set and maintain production priorities based on demand, material availability, capacity, and customer commitments
- Identify shortages, late materials, capacity issues, and other risks before they affect delivery
- Create and manage purchase orders and keep supplier dates and purchasing information current in the ERP
- Source and qualify suppliers for raw materials, components, outside processing, and other manufacturing needs
- Request and evaluate supplier quotes based on price, quality, lead time, capacity, reliability, and risk
- Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and supplier agreements
- Monitor supplier performance and follow up on quality or delivery issues
- Look for opportunities to reduce material cost and improve purchasing leverage without sacrificing quality or delivery
- Review inventory levels, safety stock, shortages, material usage, and excess or obsolete inventory
- Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Sales, Finance, Inventory, Shipping/Receiving, and suppliers
- Maintain accurate supplier, purchasing, lead-time, and planning data in the ERP
- Help improve the systems and processes connecting sales orders, planning, purchasing, inventory, production, and shipment
- 3–5 years of experience in production planning, purchasing, sourcing, materials management, or supply chain within manufacturing
- Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing workflows
- Experience with BOMs, routings, work orders, inventory, material requirements, and manufacturing lead times
- Purchasing and supplier-management experience
- Experience identifying and qualifying new manufacturing suppliers
- Strong negotiation and cost-analysis skills
- Ability to evaluate more than purchase price, including lead time, quality, reliability, capacity, and total cost
- Strong Excel and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving manufacturing environment
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through
- Manufacturing experience is important; experience in oil and gas, energy, aerospace, precision manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or engineered-to-order manufacturing is highly desirable
- NetSuite or similar manufacturing ERP experience is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Relevant manufacturing planning, purchasing, sourcing, and ERP/MRP experience may substitute for formal education
