The Role

As Assistant Store Manager, you will be a key leader working directly with the General Manager to oversee daily operations, support our team, and uphold the Flame & Flora standard of excellence. This is not just a support role, you’ll be a driving force in shaping our culture, mentoring staff, and ensuring each customer has a meaningful experience.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about cannabis education, comfortable with compliance in a regulated environment, and ready to build something innovative in the Minnesota market.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and Compliance

• Oversee daily store functions including opening and closing, cash handling, and inventory management.
• Ensure accurate execution of policies and procedures, including compliance with Tribal ordinances and State compact requirements when necessary.
• Maintain a clean, professional, and welcoming retail environment that reflects the Flame & Flora brand.
• Support the General Manager in product ordering, vendor relationships, and merchandising.

Customer Experience and Education

• Lead with hospitality by making every guest feel seen, respected, and guided.
• Train staff to educate customers about cannabis beyond potency , focusing on terpene profiles, aromas, quality indicators, and desired effects.
• Uphold Flame & Flora’s mission of being Minnesota’s first deli-style cannabis retailer by guiding customers through the sensory experience of selecting flower.
• Handle escalated customer situations with professionalism and empathy.

Team Leadership and Development

• Supervise retail associates, coaching them on performance and professional growth.
• Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and staff accountability.
• Collaborate with the General Manager on recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new hires.
• Provide ongoing training to ensure staff understand compliance, customer education, and the Flame & Flora approach to retail.
• Celebrate wins, build morale, and foster a culture of inclusion and excellence.

Community and Representation

• Embody the values of Flame & Flora and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in every interaction.
• Help position Flame & Flora as a leader in Minnesota’s cannabis industry by setting a high bar for professionalism and hospitality.
• Engage with customers and community members in a way that builds trust and long-term relationships.

Qualifications

Required

• At least 21 years of age.
• 2 years in retail leadership, with proven ability to supervise and motivate a team.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Flexible schedule availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to pass a background check in accordance with Tribal regulations.

Preferred

• Cannabis retail or regulated-industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of cannabis products and their effects.
• Experience with point-of-sale systems, cash handling, and inventory software.
• Track record of building a positive workplace culture.
