What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Internship position at Flagler County Sheriff's Office?
Duties And Responsibilities
Work with a member of the Forensic Unit collecting various samples;
- Various duties, except actual Police work which may include, but may not be limited to:
- Through ride-alongs and tours, interns may also be exposed to more aspects of the Agency and its operations;
- Keeps a journal of activities to aid in the evaluation process;
- Participates in training with openness to learning and receiving feedback;
- Performs routine administrative and clerical work to support efficient and effective office operations;
Work with a member of the Forensic Unit collecting various samples;
- Proper handling, packaging, and transporting of property and evidence to forensic labs;
- Follows protocol and procedures for collecting, packaging and preserving property and/or evidence;
- Job shadows upon arrival at a crime scene, searching for trace fibers, tire marks, etc.;
- Assists Forensic Unit personnel with the processing of property and/or evidence in a laboratory environment;
- Assists with the collection of trace evidence, fingerprints, DNA, etc.
- Prepares sketches and diagrams to include dimensions of the scene and to establish location of evidence and relationships of all relevant data;
- Prepares detailed reports and documentation for educational purposes.
- Assists in photography of property and/or evidence;
- Assists in the documentation of property and/or evidence, the packaging, labeling and submission of property and/or evidence.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Current Student seeking college credits from a regionally accredited college or university with a degree in Public Administration, Public Finance, Criminal Justice, Business Administration or related field
- Please note this is an unpaid internship.
- Internship assignments are flexible, but will be based on a Monday-Friday schedule
