Job Summary
The Safety Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving company safety programs. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations while supporting a strong culture of safety across the organization.
Working closely with operations, HR, and leadership teams, the Safety Supervisor provides guidance, training, and support on safety-related matters. This position plays a key role in incident prevention, risk reduction, and regulatory compliance through proactive engagement, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This exempt-level role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with the ability to work independently while maintaining a visible and active presence in the workplace.
Essential Duties
- Maintain and update the Safety Management System, including safety records, reports, logs, and required regulatory documentation.
- Monitor, implement, and improve safety programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with OSHA regulations and company standards.
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and assigned safety-related projects.
- Support Occupational Health services as needed, including first aid response when appropriate.
- Observe employee work practices and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify hazardous conditions or behaviors and collaborate with teams to develop and implement corrective actions.
- Assist in developing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Work Procedures.
- Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented.
- Follow up on corrective actions to verify effectiveness and completion.
- Ensure contractors and subcontractors comply with all site-specific safety requirements.
- Support emergency response planning and participate in or lead drills and safety committee activities.
- Maintain a regular presence on the production floor to reinforce safety practices and engagement.
- Coordinate and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding, toolbox talks, and ongoing education.
- Promote safety awareness and foster a proactive safety culture across all departments.
- Adjust priorities as needed to respond to changing operational demands.
- Build positive working relationships and resolve safety concerns at the appropriate level.
- Perform administrative duties related to safety programs and compliance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on occupational health and safety matters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
This position requires a strong working knowledge of safety management systems, regulatory compliance requirements, and workplace safety programs.
The Safety Supervisor must maintain familiarity with OSHA, EPA, ANSI, and other applicable safety regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and effectively communicate safety expectations across all levels of the organization while driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred. An associate degree with relevant certifications and significant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of safety experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment required, including at least one (1) year in a leadership or supervisory role.
Certifications: None required; Safety (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR Instructor), Food Safety, or Training/Development certification is a plus.
Language: Effective verbal and written communication skills required, preferred fluency in both Spanish and English.
Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with HRIS (UKG/UltiPro) and Learning Management Systems; ability to operate standard office equipment.
