NOTICE OF OPENING: Student Support Paraprofessional - Health

LOCATION: Schofield Early Childhood Center

WORK YEAR: 2026-2027 School Year

SALARY: Per 2654 Contract - 7 hours per day

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Support Paraprofessional - Health to provide one-on-one support for a student requiring continuous insulin monitoring and diabetes management. This position involves working closely with school health staff, educators, and the student's family to ensure the student's health needs are met throughout the school day, enabling them to fully participate in educational activities.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred
• Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours) or ETS ParaPro Assessment. A passing score of 460 is required
• Previous work with children;
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff
• Ability to organize materials and time efficiently and to keep neat, accurate records
• Ability to work directly with students in an appropriate and professional manner and to give direction as needed.
• Knowledge and skills in working with children with cognitive, behavior, communication and emotional disabilities.
• Must have the ability and proven record to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
• Display sensitivity to the multi-ethnicity of students.
• Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
• Basic knowledge of diabetes management or willingness to undergo training.
• Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
• Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  
  

Description

• Monitor the student's blood glucose levels using provided equipment (e.g., continuous glucose monitor or finger-stick tests) as required.
• Administer insulin via injection or pump under the supervision of the school nurse or per the student's diabetes care plan.
• Recognize and respond to signs of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, following appropriate protocols.
• Collaborate with the school nurse, teachers, and family to ensure the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan is effectively implemented.
• Maintain accurate records of glucose readings, insulin administration, and other relevant health data.
• Assist the student with managing dietary needs, including carbohydrate counting and meal/snack monitoring.
• Participate in training related to diabetes management, emergency response, and other relevant topics.
• When not needed for 1:1 care, will support our special education classes including ECSE and KinderPath with changing diapers/pull ups, toilet training, etc.
• Preparing instructional materials under the direction of the teacher in an accurate and timely manner;
• Under teacher supervision, work with the students to reinforce and master material initially introduced by the teacher;
• Under the direction of the teacher, assist in supervising, interacting, and working directly students in the classroom and other settings (i.e. lunchroom, playground, band/music room, restroom, library, field trips, and/or other areas);
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or situations involving students
• Maintain confidentiality;
• Performs other duties and functions as assigned by the classroom teacher.
