Position Title: Transportation Counselor 

 Location: Fort Hamilton

Job Description: 

• The principal liaison with all elements, carriers, and facilities
• Selecting and applying appropriate travel guides, methods, techniques, and work sequences to effectively accomplish transportation arrangements, with very little instruction, guidance, and review
• Establish and maintain automated and manual accounting records, posts receipts and turn-ins, and performs dues-ins and dues-outs accounting.
• Correct error and exception documents.
• Operate a Multi-service Personal Property Office in Accordance with DoD 4500.9-R and Joint Travel Regulation
• Perform counseling functions using the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) and Transportation Operational Personal Property System (TOPS)
• Shall provide specialized, expedited assistance to the customers who receive short notice, emergency movement directives
• Provide dedicated, special service of shipments of personal property of deceased service members or their dependents (BLUEBARK) 
• Provide counseling/briefings to customers on personal property entitlements and responsibilities, prepare documentation to initiate and schedule personal property shipments and answer customer questions and inquiries in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulation, Defense Transportation Regulation DoD 4500.9-R (DTR) Part IV, Personal Property Consignment Instruction Guide (PPCIG) and Service Supplements
• Provide system assistance to customers using DPS self-counseling module, coordinating shipments with the Transportation Service Providers and providing guidance regarding claims settlements processing    
• Assist within the department as directed by the Manager or Supervisor.
• Maintain workstation and department area in a highly professional manner and appearance
• Performs other duties assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Experience with operating a Multi-service Personal Property office in Accordance with DoD 4500.9-R and the Joint Travel Regulation
• Experience using the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) and the Transportation Operational Personal Property System (TOPS)
• Experience providing dedicated, special services of shipment of personal property of decease service members or their dependents

Basic requirements 

• Must be a US Citizen or US permanent resident for more than 3 years in order to obtain NACI and CAC Card eligibility.
• Ability to pass a post offer drug screen clearance. 
• High school diploma or equivalent. 
• Must be able to pass pre-employment and background checks related to the position
• Valid state driver's license
• Must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
• Must be computer literate.
• Must possess good communication skills.
• Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
