We are seeking a skilled Equipment Maintenance Technician, ideally one who lives north of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel somewhere between Hampton to Yorktown, to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of various types of exercise equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and cable weight lifting machines to ensure user safety, optimal performance, and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and be proficient in using diagnostic tools, including a multimeter, to identify issues and implement effective solutions.

The person hired for this position is expected to have the capability to understand the mechanics of the fitness machines, demonstrate the ability to read wiring schematics and electronics signal tracing, show an ability to accurately troubleshoot symptoms in equipment that could present as either mechanical, electrical, or electronic failures, as well as have the capacity to learn the customer contact software used by all employees. If the newly hired technician demonstrates these skills during the initial 30 days of employment, the new technician will be scheduled for a one week formal basic gym equipment repair training in Charlotte, NC covered by FMT. Upon completion of training a$2/hr pay raise will apply. It is anticipated that this position will lead to full time employment.

Responsibilities

• Travel to up to 4 customer locations per day within the Hampton Roads region of Virginia and surrounding areas.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance checks on equipment to ensure proper operation and to identify likely needed repairs to prevent equipment failure.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
• Perform repairs on malfunctioning equipment in a timely manner.
• Utilize diagnostic tools, including multimeters, to assess equipment operation.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs performed.
• Collaborate with other technicians and departments to improve equipment reliability.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment.

Requirements and Details

• Punctuality, great personal hygiene, high work ethic.
• Must have own basic hand tools including multimeter, wrenches, sockets, ratchets, pliers, Allen wrenches, lighting, rubber mallet, screwdrivers, etc.
• Must have a clean driving record with no accidents or tickets in the last 18 months
• Must have own transportation until the company can provide a company car to the technician.
• Must be capable of safely lifting and/or moving bulky, often heavy, exercise equipment during troubleshooting or assembly/disassembly. We sometimes need to move or reposition parts or equipment. Should be able to easily move 50lbs.

Qualifications

• At least one year experience repairing and maintaining exercise equipment is a plus
• Proficiency in using a multimeter.
• Capable of seeing mechanical systems and being able to understand it's basic operation. Can trace ELECTRONIC wiring and taking voltage, resistance, and amperage readings of components.
• Can disassemble and PROPERLY reassemble equipment according to equipment manuals or guides.
• Ability to read tech manuals, schematics, and exploded parts diagrams.
• Strong customer relations skills with ability to clearly explain the results of diagnostic troubleshooting.

We are military and skilled trade friendly. Candidates with a background in auto or diesel mechanics, formal military training in radar, sonar, and weapons systems repair and maintenance would likely be a very good fit.

• If you have face or neck piercings, or other decorative accessories, are you willing and able to remove them while on the clock and visiting customers for Fitness Machine Technicians? Use of complementing skin colored posts to keep the piercing open would be acceptable.
• Being on time is a must. Appointments can be scheduled anytime between 8:30am and 3:30pm. Do you have difficulty being 5 minutes early to scheduled appointments?
• Our customers can be found anywhere in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia including nearby surrounding locations including as far north as Williamsburg. This position requires going to any place withing this area. If you are hired for the job, do you agree to go to those locations to provide service to our customers?
• Do you own, at minimum, the following hand tools: a multimeter, 3-10mm (including 4.5mm and 5.5mm) and similar sized imperial Allen wrenches, 8mm-19mm metric and 3/16"-13/16" standard 3/8" drive sockets with 3/8" ratchet, 3/8" extensions, assortment of Phillips and flat blade screwdrivers, rechargeable light source, rubber mallet, 6" needle nose and linesman pilers, and tool bag to carry it all?
• A felony conviction or outstanding warrant will prevent a candidate from being able to work at our federal contract locations and will disqualify candidate from this position. A background check will be performed; acknowledge this statement.

• Do you have reliable transportation to travel to our customer locations? A company car will be provided to the technician who has demonstrated competency in the position and has attended the FMT basic technician course in Charlotte, NC. Personal vehicle use is a temporary arrangement.
