Senior Preconstruction Manager

Job Summary

The Senior Estimator manages and contributes to the preparation of estimates for various commercial and industrial building construction projects. This role is responsible for all project phases, from conceptualization to on-site construction, in collaboration with the estimating team. The Senior Estimator ensures that client project requirements are met and consistently upholds a high standard of professionalism in estimating. This position reports directly to the Director of Preconstruction.

Responsibilities

• Review and discuss contract documents (plans, specifications, and addenda) with the team and subcontractors.
• Perform quantity take-offs and organize and analyze project information.
• Manage the project RFPs, solicitations, etc. while collaborating with the preconstruction team.
• Collaborate with architects, owners, and colleagues while leading the preconstruction process and maintaining best practices and ownership of estimates.
• Attend pre-bid/design meetings, site visits, assessments, and walkthroughs.
• Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers using bid solicitation software.
• Communicate directly with clients,subcontractors and suppliers to clarify scope, pricing, and information, and assess their suitability and competitiveness.
• Prepare bid proposals for submission with the assistance of the estimating coordinator.
• Provide value-engineering and cost management options for clients as needed.

Qualifications

• Organized and detail-oriented with proven ability to manage multiple projects.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a construction-related field, or equivalent education/experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in dedicated estimating commercial/industrial building construction projects, with competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating across all project stages.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and takes ownership of tasks.
• Proficient in construction systems and disciplines, including sitework, concrete, carpentry, openings, specialties, mechanical, and electrical, to complete comprehensive cost estimates independently.
• Estimating background and understanding of detailed estimating for GC self-performed trades such as concrete construction, masonry,carpentry, openings, and specialties, with the ability to identify the necessary components.
• Proficient with industry standard estimating platforms such as Bluebeam, On-Screen, Planswift, Cost-OS, Sage Estimating, and Destini Estimator.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and coordinate with team members.
• Maintains integrity and high standards of ethics, conduct, and adherence to organizational policies.
• Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Capable of presenting well in interviews and meetings with clients, architects, and industry professionals, providing detailed project descriptions.
• Knowledgeable about construction practices, methods, trends, and crew data.

This in-person position is based at the Decatur Corporate Office and/or Huntsville Office. The candidate will initially work at the Decatur Office to learn company procedures and standards, with potential for a permanent location at the Huntsville Office after this period. Limited remote work may be possible due to the collaborative nature of the role.
