Mechanical Engineer — Product Development & Manufacturing
Ixonia, WI | Full-Time | On-Site
ABOUT FITBENCH
FITBENCH designs and manufactures 100% USA-made commercial fitness equipment, built around fast transitions in a space-efficient footprint. We're a fast-growing manufacturer serving major commercial fitness chains globally.
THE ROLE
We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to own the technical backbone of our product line — from new product development to continuous improvement of what's already on the floor. You'll split time between the CAD workstation and the shop floor, working directly with the fabrication team to make sure designs translate into efficient, repeatable production.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead New Product Development (NPD) projects from concept through production release
- Design and detail components/assemblies in SolidWorks (3D models, drawings, BOMs, tolerancing)
- Analyze and improve existing products for cost, durability, manufacturability, and assembly time
- Apply Lean/5S principles to manufacturing processes and cell layouts
- Work hands-on with metal fabrication (forming, cutting, finishing) to validate designs and troubleshoot production issues
- Partner with production and quality teams to reduce waste, defects, and cycle time
- Support tooling and fixture design for new and existing product lines
- Maintain industry awareness of other fitness brands, products, materials, and trends to inform future NPD direction
- Work with the sales team, distributors, and customers to gather market research and feedback that shapes NPD and continuous improvement priorities
- Maintain engineering documentation and revision control
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Expert-level SolidWorks proficiency (modeling, assemblies, drawings, GD&T)
- Solid understanding of metal fabrication processes (sheet metal, forming, cutting, assembly)
- Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing and 5S implementation
- Experience taking products from prototype to full production
- Comfortable on the shop floor, not just at a desk
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in fitness, sporting goods, or similar metal-fabricated consumer products
- FEA/simulation experience
- Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems (we run NetSuite)
- Preferred: experience with RADAN (Hexagon) programming software
