Position Title: Assistant Professor of Kinesiology 

The Assistant Professor of Kinesiology is a full-time, tenure-track faculty member responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, advising and mentoring students, maintaining an active program of scholarship, and providing service to the department, university, and profession. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, student recruitment and retention efforts, and the advancement of the Kinesiology Program while supporting the mission and strategic goals of  Fisk University. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

•  Teach 12 hours of undergraduate courses each semester in kinesiology and related disciplines using effective and evidence-based instructional practices.  

•  Develop, revise, and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.  

•  Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records in accordance with university policies.  

•  Advise and mentor undergraduate students regarding academic progress, career opportunities, and graduate/professional school preparation.  

•  Establish and maintain regular office hours and provide appropriate academic support to students.  

•  Engage in scholarly research and other creative activities that result in presentations, publications, grant submissions, or other scholarly products.  

•  Participate in curriculum development, program review, assessment, and accreditation activities.  

•  Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.  

•  Participate in student recruitment, retention, and experiential learning initiatives.  

•  Maintain professional development and active involvement in relevant professional organizations.  

•  Engage in community outreach and service activities consistent with the mission of the University.  

•  Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or University administration. 

 

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

•  Comprehensive knowledge of kinesiology principles, including exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor behavior, physical activity, health promotion, and related areas.  

•  Knowledge of current teaching methodologies and best practices in higher education.  

•  Ability to design, deliver, and assess undergraduate instruction effectively.  

•  Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research and disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.  

•  Knowledge of student learning outcomes assessment and continuous program improvement processes.  

•  Proficiency in instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).  

•  Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.  

•  Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.  

•  Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.  

•  Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a dynamic academic environment.  

•  Commitment to student success, academic excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion.  

•  Ability to secure external funding and develop research collaborations (preferred).  

•  Ability to supervise student research, internships, practica, and other experiential learning activities. 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or closely related field 

•  ABD considered 

Experience: 

  • Previous teaching in Kinesiology at the collegiate level is preferred. 

  • Proven ability to cultivate professional relationships with local, state and federal businesses.  

 

Additional Requirements: A letter of application, including a statement of teaching philosophy and a summary of teaching experience at the undergraduate level, will need to be provided along with a current curriculum vitae and a copy of unofficial transcripts. Additionally, the names, addresses and phone numbers of three (3) references is required of the successful applicant. Official transcripts will be required at a later stage of the search process. A background check will be required of the successful applicant. 

Licenses or Certificates: CSCS and/or RD preferred but not required.
