About Fishs Eddy

Fishs Eddy is not just a brand—it’s a way of thinking. We are built on humor, authenticity, and a passion for great design. We create unique, high-quality housewares and tabletop products with a distinct personality that resonates with our customers. Our team is a close-knit group of thinkers, doers, and creatives who embody our core values every day.

Our team is small, mighty, human, and scrappy. We move fast, we work hard, and nothing is above or below any of us… yes, even the dishes. As we continue to scale across retail, e-commerce, wholesale, and manufacturing, we’re building a finance foundation that’s smart, modern, and ready for growth.

About the Role

Fishs Eddy is seeking a hands-on, technically strong Controller to serve as the primary owner of all day-to-day accounting and financial operations. This is not a “layered corporate finance department” situation—this is a roll-up-your-sleeves, build-the-engine-while-we’re-flying-it role.

You’ll report directly into our Fractional CFO, manage the AP/HR Coordinator, and partner with our outsourced CPA team. You’ll be the main person doing the work—owning the close, running the books, reconciling the details, ensuring compliance, and helping us mature our systems as we grow.

As the business scales, you’ll have the opportunity to shape and grow the finance team beneath you.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Daily Ownership

  • Run and manage the full accounting function day-to-day; you are the hands-on leader doing the work while also building the future structure.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the AP/HR Coordinator; develop process improvements and workflow optimizations.
  • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams—Operations, Product, Retail, and Leadership—to ensure accounting accuracy, communication, and teamwork.
  • Partner closely with Operations to properly account for vendor activity, vendor prepayments, customer deposits, and inventory-related transactions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with outsourced CPA firm for year-end needs, tax-related requests, and audit prep.

Month-End Close, Ledger Integrity & Technical Accounting

  • Own and administer the month-end close process end-to-end.
  • Prepare recurring journal entries, quarterly true-ups, balance sheet reconciliations, and GL maintenance.
  • Review reconciliations of all sub-ledgers; manage sales tax review (via 3rd party) and produce draft monthly financial statements.
  • Maintain and evolve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Ensure AP and AR accounts are clean, current, and fully reconciled; periodically assess credit/collections and process improvements.
  • Participate in ongoing Sage Intacct optimization and enhancements.

Budgeting, Reporting & KPI Development

  • Build the monthly financial reporting package for CFO review, including schedules, variance explanations, and insights.
  • Participate in annual budget creation and forecasting cycles.
  • Develop templates for department and project budgets as needed.
  • Continue refining Income Statement by Segment and improve KPI tracking and reporting within Intacct.

Payroll, Benefits & Administrative Finance

  • Partner with Payroll Coordinator to ensure accurate payroll processing and segregation of duties.
  • Support annual vendor audits, RFPs, and benefit/process evaluations.
  • Research tools, systems, automations, and efficiencies that modernize finance operations.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with preference for a CPA
  • Five (5) – seven (7) years of Controller or related experience showing increasing levels of responsibility
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Effectively manage hybrid/remote accounting team and prioritize work for team members
  • Reliable, positive attitude, strong work ethic and desire to collaborate
  • Computer proficiency; Sage Intacct, G-Suite, knowledge of Shopify, advanced Excel

Why Fishs Eddy?

We’ve been doing this forever—and we’re just getting started.

You’ll join a team that’s growing fast and building something meaningful, with humor baked into the culture. You’ll have real ownership, real impact, and a front-row seat as we scale retail, e-commerce & wholesale.

We’re a group that thinks hard, works hard, laughs often, and believes in leaving things better than we found them. Including the spreadsheets.
