What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Fishing For the Fight?
Fishing For the Fight (FFF) is a Sublette County, Wyoming nonprofit dedicated to supporting local families through our signature annual fly fishing fundraiser. Our flagship event brings together the community for a multi-day celebration culminating in a large-scale tent gathering, alongside year-round outreach and community engagement.
FFF is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization's operations, fundraising, and community programs. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving the success of our annual fundraiser and building FFF's presence and impact in the community throughout the year. Additionally, FFF plans to expand its reach statewide, with organizing efforts beginning this winter and launch planned for 2027 — the annual fundraiser event itself will remain based in Sublette County. The ideal candidate combines strong event production and vendor management skills with genuine passion for our mission and the Sublette County community, plus the vision and organizational skills to help lead this expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and execute FFF's flagship fly fishing fundraiser, including a large-scale (150–200 guest) tented event, from concept through post-event wrap-up
- Source and manage vendors and contractors (AV/production, rentals, catering, etc.), evaluate technical requirements, and negotiate contracts to fit event needs and budget
- Cultivate and steward sponsor and donor relationships; oversee the design and production of sponsor recognition materials and donor communications
- Represent FFF at community events (e.g., local parades and civic gatherings) and build partnerships with local businesses and organizations
- Work closely with the Board President/Chair and Board of Directors on strategic direction, reporting regularly on fundraising progress, event planning, and organizational health
- Lead board meetings, prepare and distribute agendas in advance, and take and maintain accurate meeting minutes
- Manage the annual budget, maintain organizational records, and ensure compliance with nonprofit reporting requirements
- Recruit, organize, and lead volunteers in support of events and programs
- Oversee promotional materials and communications, including social media, to raise awareness of FFF's mission and events
- Lead planning and organizing efforts (beginning winter 2026) for FFF's expansion of its mission and reach statewide across Wyoming, with launch targeted for 2027; the flagship fundraiser event itself will remain Sublette County-based
Qualifications:
- Proven experience planning and executing large-scale events, ideally 150 guests
- Strong vendor management and negotiation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in donor/sponsor relations
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
- Comfortable working in both strategic (board-facing) and hands-on operational capacities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for budgeting, tracking, and reporting
- Experience leading meetings, including preparing agendas and taking accurate minutes
- Experience building relationships and partnerships across new communities or regions
- Grant writing and diversified fundraising experience a plus
- Interest in fly fishing and the Sublette County/Wyoming outdoor community a plus
