Position Summary
The School Bus Router/Dispatcher is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating efficient school bus routes and schedules to ensure safe and timely transportation of students. This role also manages daily dispatch operations, communicates with drivers, and addresses service issues promptly.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities
- Routing & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain bus routes using routing software and district guidelines.
- Adjust routes for efficiency, safety, and compliance with state and local regulations.
- Update routes for new students, address changes, and special transportation needs.
- Dispatching
- Assign drivers and buses to scheduled routes and trips.
- Monitor real-time operations and respond to delays, breakdowns, or emergencies.
- Communicate route changes and instructions to drivers promptly.
- Customer Service & Communication
- Serve as a contact for drivers, school staff, and parents regarding transportation issues.
- Handle inquiries and resolve complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and transportation policies.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, driver assignments, and incident reports.
- Administrative Duties
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on routing efficiency and performance.
- Assist with driver scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll verification as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or school bus operations.
