What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paving Superintendent position at Fischman Asphalt?
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Superintendent with strong heavy civil background — someone who understands the entire job lifecycle: grading, base work, rock, utilities, traffic control, QC, trucking coordination, plant communication, production rates, safety, and client relations.
You will oversee field operations on multiple projects, manage crews, coordinate equipment/trucking, ensure quality, and deliver projects safely, on time, and on budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and mentor asphalt paving crews and support personnel
- Manage daily field operations including scheduling, trucking counts, quantities, and plant coordination
- Oversee production, compaction, yields, and asphalt laydown quality
- Review and execute plans, grades, blueprints, and job specifications
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers, QC Technicians, and Foremen
- Ensure compliance with FDOT standards and project documentation
- Maintain jobsite safety, toolbox talks, and hazard analysis
- Track daily quantities, tonnages, and job costs with accuracy
- Communicate effectively with clients, inspectors, engineers, and subcontractors
- Travel statewide depending on project location (housing provided)
Qualifications
- 5 years as an Asphalt Superintendent or Foreman running full crews
- Strong understanding of grading, rock/base, stormwater utilities, and heavy civil operations
- Experience with milling, paving, traffic control, and FDOT projects preferred
- Ability to read and interpret plans, grades, elevations, and specifications
- High level of organization, leadership, and communication
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in fast-moving environments
