Position Summary
This position is responsible for locating, repairing, replacing, and installing underground residential plumbing and drainage systems. Work includes sewer and water line repair, pipe bursting, trenchless replacement, excavation, and site restoration. The ideal candidate brings hands-on excavation and pipework experience and understands how to execute quality residential service without homeowner disruption. No plumbing license is required—skill, integrity, and competence are.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Residential Underground Plumbing Service
- Diagnose damaged water and sewer lines using cameras and locating equipment
- Perform pipe bursting, trenchless line replacement, spot repairs, and full line replacements
- Install, repair, and connect residential sewer, storm, and domestic water piping
- Safely expose utilities, locate service lines, and confirm routing before excavation
- Conduct testing of lines to ensure proper operation and compliance with residential standards
Excavation & Site Work
- Operate hand tools and small-to-medium excavation equipment to trench and expose lines
- Set and grade pipe to proper slope to ensure flow and long-term system integrity
- Restore yards, driveways, and landscaping post-install to minimize customer impact
- Maintain a clean job site and professional communication with homeowners
Safety & Compliance
- Follow Washington L&I, OSHA, and local municipal rules for trenches, utilities, and excavation
- Use proper shoring, spoils placement, and traffic control procedures
- Identify underground hazards and stop work when unsafe conditions exist
Skills & Competencies Required
- Strong working knowledge of residential underground utilities, sewer line installation, and water service repair
- Experience with pipe bursting and trenchless methods is a major advantage
- Ability to read basic site plans, locate lines, and understand residential utility layouts
- Mechanical aptitude and field problem-solving—no guesswork
- Professional, calm communication with homeowners and teammates
- Dependable, self-directed, and accountable for quality and timeliness
Physical Requirements
- Lift 75 pounds regularly and work in trenches, confined spaces, and uneven terrain
- Ability to kneel, dig, bend, operate machinery, and work outdoors year-round
Licenses, Certifications & Qualifications
Required:
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
- Residential underground plumbing/utility experience (minimum 1–3 years)
Preferred (Not Required):
- Experience with excavators, skid-steers, or similar equipment
- Confined Space Entry, First Aid/CPR, or OSHA-10
No Washington State plumbing license is required for this role.
