The Senior Underwriter will remain current on the Small Business Administration regulations and standard operating procedures, ensuring compliance with all Bank and Small Business Administration Regulations and operating procedures.
Responsibilities
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze corporate and personal financial statements, tax returns, other financial information provided by customers, and any due diligence (i.e., credit reports) in connection with any new loan request.
- Working in conjunction with the RM, the underwriter will prepare complete underwriting memorandums, including financial projections with a sensitivity analysis, for submission to the appropriate approving authority.
- Upon direction of the RM, interact with customers and/or their accountants in the credit analysis process when appropriate. May be requested to join the RM on visits to the customer or SBA conventions.
- Maintains current knowledge of all related Small Business Administration regulations, bank policies, and regulatory requirements and helps determine Small Business Administration eligibility on loan requests.
- Maintains or builds relationships with the Small Business Administration office, attorneys, and consultants to continue growth and development in knowledge and understanding of issues within Small Business Administration and the industry.
- Ensure all Service Level Agreements, regulatory compliance requirements, and Bank’s credit risk profiles and profitability are monitored and maintained.
- Exhibits general understanding of organizational structures, documentation, and/or collateral structures.
- Uses best practices to provide loan recommendations based on a review of all underwriting criteria for final approval.
- Exercises adherence to internal portfolio/underwriting processes including timely and accurate data entry to Vikar and/or other centralized systems, as well as, maintaining high quality file documentation in a paperless environment.
- Helps mentor and develop other underwriters on staff as needed and directed.
- Assists in the development of new business for Firstrust. Is alert to expressed customer/prospect needs to suggest appropriate services. Directs customers to appropriate person to establish business relationships.

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Regularly required to drive a motor vehicle, occasional air travel, attending meetings at various venues, including but not limited to customers’ offices and/or properties, restaurants and other meeting locations, and ascend/descend stairs and or ladders occasionally to perform inspections.
- The employee may be required to lift files/materials up to 20 pounds to take to various locations.
- The incumbent will be expected to operate a computer terminal.

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience as an SBA Underwriter.
- Demonstrated ability to apply SBA credit concepts and practices.
- Strong ability to apply judgment, take initiative, handle multiple priorities, and work under limited supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and good oral written communication skills. A hard worker who possesses an attention to detail and is a team player.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other systems/systems (Salesforce, Vikar) required to successfully perform the job function.
