Position Summary:

The Instructional Coach – Mathematics is a school-based instructional leader responsible for improving the quality of mathematics instruction and student achievement across grades K-8. Working in partnership with the School Director, Assistant Principals, and the FirstLine Schools Academics Team, the Instructional Coach develops teacher capacity through job-embedded coaching, real-time feedback, lesson preparation, professional development, and data-driven instructional planning.

The Instructional Coach serves as the school's lead expert in mathematics instruction and is responsible for ensuring that teachers consistently deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that accelerates student learning and achievement, aligned with FirstLine’s vision for excellence in math instruction.

Position Responsibilities:Teacher Coaching & Development
  • Provides ongoing instructional coaching to K-8 mathematics teachers through frequent classroom observations, modeling, co-teaching, and real-time coaching.
  • Delivers immediate, actionable feedback that strengthens teacher practice and improves student outcomes.
  • Plans and facilitates regular coaching cycles, including pre-conferences, observations, feedback meetings, goal setting, and follow-up support.
  • Models highly effective instructional practices and demonstrates lessons in classrooms.
  • Supports teachers in implementing school and network instructional priorities with fidelity.
  • Builds teachers' instructional knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics.
  • Collaborates with school leadership to identify teacher development priorities and differentiated coaching supports.
  • Maintains coaching documentation, teacher action plans, and progress monitoring.
Instructional Planning
  • Supports teachers in developing high-quality, standards-aligned lesson plans using network curriculum and instructional resources.
  • Leads collaborative lesson internalization and planning meetings.
  • Ensures lesson plans include rigorous questioning, mathematical discourse, checks for understanding, differentiation, and effective use of instructional materials.
  • Assists teachers in planning targeted interventions based on student misconceptions and assessment data.
  • Collaborates with teachers to prepare for upcoming instructional units and assessments.
Professional Development
  • Designs and facilitates engaging professional development sessions for teachers throughout the school year.
  • Leads grade-level and content team meetings focused on instructional excellence.
  • Supports new teacher onboarding and mathematics curriculum training.
  • Develops resources, exemplars, and instructional tools that strengthen mathematics instruction across the school.
  • Partners with network academic staff to implement instructional initiatives and professional learning aligned to organizational priorities.
Data Analysis & Student Achievement
  • Analyzes classroom, interim, and state assessment data to identify instructional trends and priorities.
  • Supports teachers in using student work and assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Facilitates data meetings that result in actionable instructional adjustments and intervention plans.
  • Monitors progress toward school mathematics achievement goals and recommends instructional responses.
  • Works with school leadership to identify opportunities to accelerate student growth, particularly for students performing below grade level.
School Leadership
  • Serves as a member of the school's instructional leadership team.
  • Partners with school leadership to monitor instructional quality through classroom walkthroughs and instructional rounds.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of professional learning throughout the school year.
  • Supports the successful implementation of network curriculum, instructional initiatives, and assessment systems.
  • Maintains strong relationships with teachers built on trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of school and organizational priorities.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Louisiana teaching certification preferred.
  • Five or more years of successful teaching experience with demonstrated student achievement in mathematics.
  • Prior instructional coaching, teacher leadership, department chair, or school leadership experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of elementary and middle school mathematics content, pedagogy, and curriculum.
  • Experience working in open admissions public schools preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
  • Frequent classroom observations throughout the school day are required.
  • Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 20 lbs.).

The Instructional Coach – Mathematics reports to the School Director, with support and collaboration from the FirstLine Schools Academics Team.
