What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Care Aide position at FirstLight Home Care of the South Hills?
Service area: South Hills and northern Washington County
$17.00/hour to start · Part-time and full-time · Mileage reimbursed
This role is in-home, non-medical care. You work in a client’s house—not a facility—helping an older adult get through the day and stay at home. Some people need hands-on help with almost every routine. Others mainly need a reliable person in the home.
Location
Canonsburg, PA (clients throughout the South Hills and northern Washington County: Canonsburg, Peters, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park, Mt. Lebanon, Bridgeville, Cecil, McMurray, and nearby communities)
On a shift you may
- Help with shower or sponge bath, dressing, grooming, toileting, or incontinence care when it is on the service plan.
- Assist with standing, walking, and bed or chair transfers; use a walker or wheelchair when that is how they move.
- Make a simple meal or snack and stay with them if they need help eating.
- Give reminders for medicines they take themselves. You are not doing skilled nursing.
- Do the household work tied to their day: laundry, linens, kitchen and bath wipe-down, trip hazards picked up.
- Drive or go with them to a local appointment, store, or church when the plan includes it.
- Talk with them. Tell the office the same day if walking, mood, skin, or appetite changes.
- Clock in on our app. Work the hours you accepted. Call the local office if something is wrong. Support is from this area, not an out-of-state call center.
Hours
Weekday days, evenings, weekends, and some overnights as cases start. We assign by your availability and how close you live to the client. A reliable car is required.
Pay and extras
- $17.00 per hour to start
- Paid orientation and paid skills training before you take a case
- Mileage when you transport a client or travel client-to-client
- Flexible hours around the cases you accept
- 401(k) with match
- Health insurance once you meet eligibility
- Supplies and backup from the local office
Minimum to be considered
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Current driver’s license, auto insurance, and a car you can count on
- Pass Pennsylvania home-care background checks and a drug screen
- Read a care plan, write a short visit note, and speak clearly with families and the office
- Physically able to help with mobility and personal care
- CNA, STNA, HHA, or years of caring for a parent at home helps. None of those is required if you show up, complete training, and treat someone else’s house with respect.
Do not apply if
- You cannot keep an interview time (in person or video) or will not tell us when you need to move it.
- You only want facility or hospital work.
- You cannot commit to the shifts you accept in this service area.
