The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need. This option is not available in the states of California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oregon or Washington at this time.


We have recently embarked on a Digital transformation journey, by launching our Digital Factory where we are reimaging the way we work and serve our users. Our projects benefit the community by aiding in providing safe, reliable electricity to everyone:

  • Customer: create analytics to improve customer satisfaction along the customer journey for a lifetime as they move-in to a residence, pay their bill and move to new residences.
  • Transmission & Distribution: develop algorithms to detect asset failures, reduce outages and provide reliable electricity to customers.
  • Smart Meter: provide customers with the electric usage they need to make smart decisions about their home as well as reduce threats and theft in the electric system.

As a Scrum Master – Agile Coach at FirstEnergy, you will be a leader and steward of the Agile/Scrum practice for digital squads developing analytical and journey products. Your primary responsibility is to work alongside Agile Coaches to educate and mentor Scrum Masters and squads, empowering them to become more Agile. You will support digital Scrum squads with a Product Owner in their delivery of incremental value for their products each sprint. You will remove impediments and act as a shield from external distractions, create a safe working environment, and help self-organizing, self-managing squads achieve their goals.


What you’ll do:

  • Build and coach high performing squads in developing analytical, journey, or automation products.
  • Identify ways to strengthen squads, IT teams and Business teams in their understanding of Agile/Scrum concepts and principles.
  • Teach, maintain, and improve Agile/Scrum process documentation, including tools, templates, and playbooks.
  • Ensure Scrum practices are used and improved within and across squads.
  • Coordinate and support inter-squad dependencies through Scrum of Scrums and other mechanisms.
  • Bring transparency to the Business and IT organization about development and grow trust between Business, IT and the Digital Squads.
  • Identify trade-offs between the short- and long-term benefits to drive shared vision between squads, Product Owners, and business unit stakeholders.
  • Foster a continuous-learning environment and culture of courage, trust, and focus.

Who you are:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering or related field with 9 years related experience. In lieu of a degree, 11 years of related experience. Related experience includes knowledge and application of Agile and Scrum practices. Having Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Coach (CSC) or similar certification is a plus.
  • In-depth experience leading and working with cross-functional teams as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach.
  • Strong communication skills with confidence to be the voice of authority and a willingness to advocate for the team.
  • Poise and comfort coaching and teaching teams and individuals.
  • High-energy and passionate outlook to your work and the ability to influence and positively impact peers.
  • Ability and desire to learn, grow, and work across FirstEnergy and deliver results
  • A deep passion for innovation and strong collaboration skills with the fluidity to work with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
