About the Opportunity
This is an open position with Fort Martin Power Station, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FOS].
The I&C Technician functions as a team member or individual to perform technical, manual and administrative activities required to install, inspect, test, maintain, repair and calibrate instrumentation gauges, meters, relays, communication equipment, electronic, electrical and pneumatic controls and investigate and correct problems with station equipment and controls. Reports to the I&C Supervisor Plant Production.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Installing, inspecting and maintaining, repairing and calibrating instruments, gauges, meters, relays, communication equipment, electronic, electrical and pneumatic controls and associated equipment at a power station.
- Investigate, collecting data, test, make recommendations and prepare reports on unusual problems with various station equipment and controls.
- Interpreting and analyzing reports of other system failures; redesigning problem areas; preparing recommendations; and providing assistance for modifications.
- Conducting various tests such as stack emission, material scales, heat rate, turbine, pumps, compressors, fans, condenser and pulverizer performance, etc; analyze results; make recommendations; and prepare reports.
- Investigating malfunctions and repairing all instrumentation.
- Troubleshooting and repairing problems from relay level circuitry through microprocessor-based systems. Use DCS to troubleshoot control problems.
- Utilizing equipment technical manuals, equipment vendor contacts, station and corporate technical contacts to assist with troubleshooting equipment.
- Read and work from prints, control circuit schematics, DCS and PLC logic, and other equipment functional diagrams.
- Remain up to date of operating, troubleshooting and instrument test procedures and practices.
- Providing coverage for unit and equipment outages/startups (including off shifts), both planned and forced.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate ability to make decisions
- Demonstrate ability to follow instructions
- Excellent personal computer skills
- Demonstrate ability to safely use and operate all tools and equipment used in technician position (meters, calibration tools, etc.)
- Demonstrate ability to read and understand technical manuals, instructions and prints/drawings.
- Demonstrate skills in troubleshooting electrical, electronics, PLC, and/or DCS controls.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment
- Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in temperature extremes.
- Requires frequent walking, climbing, and bending.
- Must be able to lift light to medium loads.
- Must be willing to accept call-outs (including off shifts) and work overtime as needed or directed.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Must have excellent analysis, written and oral skills.
- Must pass EEI POSS MASS and TECH Test.
- Associates degree in Engineering Technology or Electrical/Electronics/Computer Tech or equivalent.
