Cultural Resources Field Monitor

FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) is looking for on-call Archaeological, Paleontological, and Cultural Resources Field Monitors / Technicians (CG03/CG04) to assist with field surveys, inventories, site recording, excavations, and site condition assessments at various sites throughout California. The Archaeological/Paleontological role is an evergreen position, meaning we are always looking for talented individuals to join our team. Applications for this position are continuously accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe monitor will perform field surveys, inventories, site recording, excavations, and site condition assessmentsIdentify cultural and paleontological materials while working with construction crews and around heavy equipmentCollect and maintain field data in an organized manner Implement and adhere to established data collection, inventory, recording, and monitoring protocolsAssist in field report writing, Trimble, and GPS operationSkillsAbility to demonstrate proper fieldwork protocols and techniquesProven ability to create results and complete assignments in a timely fashion, often under strict deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.Keen attention to detailStrong self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimum guidanceAble to follow instructions and ask informed questionsProficiency in MS Office software applications, especially Word and ExcelExcellent writing, analytical, and communication skillsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, paleontology, or geology with focus on paleontologyMinimum of 2 years of archaeological field experience working with construction crews and around heavy equipmentExperience in desert and rural conditions, and have direct experience identifying cultural and paleontological materials during constructionAbility to understand, implement and adhere to established data collection, inventory, recording, and monitoring protocolsCapacity to collect and maintain field data in an organized manner that is easily understood and accessible to other resource staffThe Ideal candidates will also have:Understanding of federal and state laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing cultural resourcesExperience with various State and federal agencies and Native American tribesWork Environment: The position will be exposed to all weather conditions and terrain. The position requires working outdoors and traveling to project sites. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Completing archaeological surveys in the desert requires the physical endurance to walk over a variety of terrains and in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, and carry a heavy pack. Physical requirements for the position include the ability to stand, bend, and kneel for long periods of time, lift at least 20 lbs. and hike 5 miles per day.FirstCarbon Solutions is focused on improving the world we live in.
