POSITION OVERVIEW

The Shop Maintenance employee is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of shop facilities. This role ensures work areas remain safe, functional, and efficient to support daily operations. Duties include conducting preventative maintenance, performing minor repairs, and assisting with facility needs as required. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain shop facilities, including lighting, ventilation, plumbing, and general building upkeep.
• Clean and restock bathrooms regularly, ensuring proper sanitation and supplies
• Empty trash cans and recycling bins throughout the shop on a scheduled basis
• Sweep, mop, and maintain general shop cleanliness to ensure a safe and orderly workspace
• Keep accurate maintenance logs, records, and reports of completed work.
• Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.
• Assist in ordering and maintaining supplies, spare parts, and basic maintenance inventory.
• Support production staff by responding quickly to maintenance needs or breakdowns.
• Ensure the shop remains clean, organized, and in compliance with safety standards
• Provide assistance to other shop mechanics who need mechanical help with shop jobs

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide timely maintenance assistance and mechanical support to production staff and shop mechanics to minimize downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary shop environment while adhering to all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and company standards.
• Ensure shop facilities, equipment, and systems (lighting, ventilation, plumbing, etc.) are properly maintained, safe, and operational at all times.

ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT

This position reports to the Shop Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2 years of relevant experience
• Approachable and acts with integrity and provides excellent service to all levels of employees and clients
• Previous experience in facilities, custodial, or maintenance work preferred
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate maintenance records

BEHAVIORAL PROFILE

Language Skills

Ability to read and understand work orders, safety instructions, and maintenance logs. Able to document completed tasks clearly and communicate effectively with supervisors, mechanics, and production staff in one-on-one or small group settings.

Mathematical Skills

Basic math skills to measure, track inventory, and record supply usage. Ability to calculate simple quantities, time intervals, and perform basic conversions when needed.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply practical problem-solving skills to troubleshoot maintenance issues and respond quickly to equipment or facility needs. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and follow established procedures while exercising good judgment in routine and non-routine situations.

Environmental Requirements

Work performed primarily in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery. May occasionally work outdoors or in non-climate-controlled areas depending on maintenance needs.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and perform physical tasks associated with facility upkeep. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
