Position Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist will perform high complexity tests in the CAP laboratory at First Urology. In addition, the Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist will support the First Urology team by performing analytical procedures, including testing of specimens and/or blood products, and accessioning and processing of patient specimens.
Responsibilities
- Performs moderate and high complexity analytical processes without direct supervision. Includes operation of immunoassay analyzers, clinical chemistry analyzers, and standard wet chemistry equipment such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, automated liquid handlers, etc.
- Ensures the accuracy of test results by performing quality control testing, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting. Acts regarding quality control and maintenance issues.
- Maintains regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to job duties.
- Adheres to the company’s quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, including calibrations and maintenance performed. May develop and implement additional quality control policies and documents to support product development.
- Maintains instruments and equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Maintains clear and legible records.
- Plans, organizes, performs, and monitors daily project activities.
- Responsible for materials management, including effective utilization of supplies and monitoring of inventory to maintain suitable stock.
- Support Chemistry Coordinator and Auto UA Coordinator when needed.
Physical Requirements
- Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment
- May be required to stand for long periods of time
- Visual acuity to examine specimens and reagents
- The ability to distinguish colors
- Light lifting may be required; offices reachable by elevator, but should be able to climb stairs in case the elevator is out.
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Candidate must have the ability to maintain punctual daily in-person attendance
Qualifications
- Experience in operating and maintaining laboratory analyzers preferred.
- Understands and complies with good laboratory practices including safety, HIPPA, confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent aptitude for troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
- Possess effective critical thinking, efficient interpersonal and communication, and decisive judgment skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft office products and computer skills.
Education and Certifications:
- BA/BS in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science. (Required)
- MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) certification. (Preferred)
