Status: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt position, 40 hours/week

Reports to: Facilities Manager & Church Administrator

Work Location: On-Site

Position summary

As part of the ministry team at First United Methodist Church of Dothan, this position supports the mission of the United Methodist Church: “To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
The Facilities and Event Set-Up Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment where people can worship, learn, serve, and grow in faith. This position provides essential support to the church by ensuring that all facilities and grounds are properly prepared for worship services, ministries, and special events. It combines custodial duties, event setup, and minor landscaping to support the smooth operation of church activities.

Qualifications

· Possesses a high school diploma or GED

• Prior facilities, custodial, or event setup experience preferred.
• Light landscaping or groundskeeping experience helpful.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning tools, products, and safety practices.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours, as needed, to include weddings, funerals, and community events.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming, Christ-centered environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Facilities Care

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, worship spaces, offices, kitchens, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain all flooring and surfaces.
• Empty trash and recycling bins and restock supplies.
• Clean windows, doors, and interior glass.
• Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, and cleaning materials.
• Keep entrances, sidewalks, and porches clear of debris.
• Identify and report maintenance issues (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) or safety concerns
• Perform minor repairs and light maintenance as assigned and within skill level.

Event Setup Responsibilities

• Set up and take down tables, chairs, risers, and equipment for worship services, meetings, and events.
• Arrange rooms according to diagrams or instructions from ministry leaders.
• Assist with basic audio/visual setup as requested and trained.
• Reset rooms to standard configurations after events.
• Coordinate with staff to ensure accurate preparation for scheduled activities.
• Prepare coffee and/or other food setups as requested.

Buildings, Grounds, & Minor Landscaping Support

• Unlock and secure buildings for daily operations and events.
• Monitor facility conditions during events to ensure readiness and safety.
• Replace light bulbs and perform light fixture maintenance.
• Pick up trash and debris around the property and parking lots.
• Trim small limbs, shrubs, and low-maintenance landscaping as needed.
• Remove sticks, branches, and seasonal debris from walkways and grounds.
• Perform light weeding or maintenance of flowerbeds and pathways when assigned.
• Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow or ice removal.
• Participate in routine indoor/outdoor safety and cleanliness inspections.

Work Environment

• Frequent physical activity, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and moving furnishings.

· Requires working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

• Exposure to cleaning products (with proper safety equipment provided).

· Carry out all other opportunities assigned by the Facilities Manager, Church Administrator, or Senior Pastor

The Facilities and Setup Technician, along with all employees of First United Methodist Church, is expected to conduct themselves in a manner that brings honor to Christ and the church, supports UMC theology, and collaborates as a team player with the rest of the church staff.
