About First Tee – West Texas

First Tee – West Texas is a youth development nonprofit serving 430 young people on our 70-acre, 9-hole learning facility and 22,000 students through school-based programming across Midland, Ector, and Crane counties. We use the game of golf to teach life skills, build character, and create Game Changers. Our facility is the practice home for Midland High School and Legacy High School golf teams — which means the condition of our course reflects directly on the young people we serve.

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Golf Course Maintenance Worker to join our grounds crew full-time. Working closely with the Course Superintendent, you will maintain the playing surfaces, practice areas, and surrounding grounds of our facility — ensuring exceptional conditions for the youth and families we serve every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mow, roll, and hand-water greens to maintain optimal playing surfaces
  • Mow fairways, rough areas, and all turf on the property
  • Change pin locations and set up course markers daily
  • Operate a ball picker and replenish range ball supply as needed
  • Weed-eat around course features, paths, and borders
  • Fill divots and assist with sand bunker maintenance
  • Support the fertility and turf management program under Superintendent direction
  • Remove trash and debris from the course and facility grounds
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and basic maintenance checks
  • Complete any additional maintenance tasks assigned by the Superintendent

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to operate groundskeeping and turf equipment safely
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including West Texas heat
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs and perform sustained physical labor
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow a daily task schedule
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members and, when needed, golfers or guests

Preferred (not required)

  • Prior experience in golf course, landscaping, or groundskeeping maintenance
  • Familiarity with turf management, irrigation systems, or fertility programs
  • Experience identifying and treating common turf diseases or pest issues
  • Experience with riding mowers, reel mowers, sprayers, or chainsaws

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This is an outdoor, physically active role. The employee will regularly work in variable weather conditions including sun, wind, and rain. The role involves extended periods of walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and operating powered equipment. Exposure to noise, mechanical parts, turf chemicals, and vibration is expected. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision.

Why Work at First Tee – West Texas

  • Your work directly supports the youth and community we serve every day
  • Be part of a mission-driven team that cares about people, not just the property

  • Full-time, year-round employment with consistent hours
