First Tee Overview

For more than 25 years, First Tee has been using the platform of golf to provide innovative and experiential learning opportunities for young people. Character education and long-term life skills are at the heart of our programs, which are delivered by coaches who have been trained in positive youth development. The First Tee Life Skills Experience is the unique component that sets First Tee apart from many other successful junior golf programs and youth development programs. By engaging young people in a combination of life skills, leadership, and golf activities, they are also exposed to positive traits that will help them achieve success in life. In the process, participants become valuable assets to their community. First Tee offers character education programs at golf courses, elementary schools, and youth centers in 150 chapters in all 50 states and internationally.


Chapter Overview

First Tee – Orange County was established in 2013. We are more than a sports program. We shape the lives of young people throughout communities in Orange County providing character building and life skills lessons while promoting healthy habits through the game of golf. To date, we have served over 30,000 youth in Orange County.

Reporting Structure

The Golf & Life Skills Coach reports to the Program Director.


Job Summary

The Golf and Life Skills Lead Coach is responsible for guiding and coaching young people to become responsible future citizens and committed, active golfers. This is accomplished by positively impacting their lives through the First Tee Golf and Life Skills Experience using lesson plans and the First Tee Coach Building Blocks. Coaches deliver lesson plans that correspond with the core lessons laid out in the First Tee curriculum.

  • All learning follows a model, and our model of learning is driven by the actions of our Coaches who assist our staff in a variety of ways regarding programming. The assistance is delivered in various ways, though primarily through the hands-on delivery of golf and life skills instruction and participant mentoring. Orientations and ongoing Coach Trainings are held throughout the year to familiarize Coaches with the First Tee coaching methodology and curriculum.


Qualifications:
  • Prior Experience (but not necessary): teaching the basic fundamental skills of golf, rules, etiquette, and playing procedures with youth
  • Working with youth, youth development
  • Communicative
  • Prompt mobile communication with Program Manager and colleagues.
  • Effective communication skills specific to youth and teens
  • Professional and Reliable
  • Exemplifies a high standard in performance, dress, and conduct at all times.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and trust ensure program integrity and success
  • Motivational
  • Sets an inspiring example for the youth and families served by FirstTee.
  • Patience and Passion to help children grow into good golfers and better people
  • Leadership
  • Ability to manage a group of 20 youth and multiple volunteers
  • Contributes to and is accountable for the performance of the team as a whole.
  • Must attend an upcoming Level I Training
  • Preference will be given to candidates with relevant prior experience
  • Reliable Transportation
