POSITION SUMMARY
The IT Manager oversees the Credit Union’s IT operations, infrastructure, support services, and technical staff, reporting to the VP of Technology and Information Security. This role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient technology systems while leading cybersecurity efforts, vendor management, technology projects, and cross-department collaboration to support organizational goals and member service.
The position also supports IT budgeting, resource planning, business continuity, disaster recovery, audits, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the IT Manager develops and leads the IT team, drives service improvements, promotes accountability, and fosters a high-performing culture focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads and manages the Information Technology team, overseeing staffing, scheduling, training, performance management, and employee development. Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement while supporting recruitment, succession planning, and personnel decisions. As a member of the management team, contributes to strategic planning and organizational initiatives that support the Credit Union’s business objectives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage the daily operation of the Credit Union's technology environment, including networks, servers, endpoints, telecommunications, cloud services, applications, and user support functions, ensuring reliable performance, availability, security, and support of critical systems.
- Oversee help desk operations, ticket management, escalation processes, and service-level expectations to ensure effective service delivery.
- Support technology planning, infrastructure modernization, system upgrades, and hardware/software lifecycle management.
- Maintain strong documentation of systems, configurations, procedures, and operational standards.
- Participate in cross-functional projects, system implementations, and technology initiatives.
- Ensure IT operations comply with the Credit Union’s Information Security Program, cybersecurity standards, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee protection of systems, networks, applications, and data from cybersecurity threats, unauthorized access, and operational risks.
- Support implementation of security controls including access management, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, patching, monitoring, backups, secure configurations, and MFA.
- Ensure timely response to security incidents, vulnerabilities, and control deficiencies.
- Partner with risk, compliance, audit, and regulators to support examinations, audits, and remediation activities.
- Support disaster recovery, business continuity, incident response, testing, and recovery planning efforts.
- Ensure privileged access and system permissions are properly managed and documented.
- Lead, coach, and develop IT staff to build technical capability, accountability, and strong service orientation.
- Assign work, establish priorities, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of objectives.
- Conduct performance management, coaching, and development planning.
- Foster collaboration, cross-training, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in evaluation, renewal, and management of technology contracts and services.
- Monitor vendor performance and support vendor risk and due diligence activities.
- Assist in IT department administration, including budgeting, resource planning, reporting, and performance monitoring.
- Promote a security-first culture within the IT team and across the organization.
- Support compliance with NCUA, FFIEC, BSA, OFAC, PCI-DSS, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in audits, regulatory examinations, and risk assessments, and track remediation of findings.
- Ensure consistent execution of change management, access control, asset management, and incident response processes.
- Provide regular reporting on IT operations, risks, and projects to senior leadership.
- Contribute to the IT roadmap and annual planning process.
- Partner with business units to identify technology solutions that improve efficiency, security, and member experience.
- Advise leadership on technology risks, opportunities, and improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience.
Experience and Other Requirements:
- 5–8 years of experience in IT strategy, operations, and management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong leadership, team development, and accountability skills.
- Solid understanding of IT and cybersecurity principles, risk management, compliance, and service delivery.
- Experience in a financial institution or other regulated environment preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and influence stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, planning, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work independently, perform effectively under pressure, and maintain accuracy and accountability.
- Flexibility to work after hours and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation as needed.
