Position Overview:
The genset applications technician plays a crucial role in our research and development facility, contributing to the testing and validation processes of generator set systems and components. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills, a willingness to get their hands dirty, and a commitment to ensuring the quality of their work. The genset applications technician will work side-by-side with the engineers on the genset team, helping to develop, assemble, debug, and test both electrical and mechanical subassemblies and generator sets themselves.
Key responsibilities:
- Produce wiring harnesses for specific components or subassemblies for both individual test articles and the generator set itself.
- Fabricate and/or assemble test rigs and tooling for genset components / subassemblies.
- Test and debug electrical and mechanical problems.
- Prepare and set up tests according to specified configurations, execute testing procedures.
- Collect data during testing activities and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and install testing equipment with proper documentation.
- Assemble genset units and prototypes, taking notes and preparing route-cards and assembly instructions.
Additionally:
- Follow company policies (data storage, Asana, Slack, etc.)
- Communicate professionally with teammates to resolve technical problems.
- Maintain a spirited, open-minded personality and "can-do" attitude during the course of unavoidable failures inherent to the R&D process.
- Continuously improve facilities by keeping it clean, organized, and prepared for tests and customer demonstrations.
- Assist as needed with computer/IT tasks, procurement/purchasing tasks, and shop / building maintenance tasks. Being a small company, these additional duties may change with time depending on your abilities and company needs.
- Continuously provide input to company procedures and know-how for improved efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in assembly and maintenance of internal combustion engine based systems (gensets, automotive, marine etc.).
- Previous experience in conceptualizing and manufacturing wiring looms/harnesses.
- Familiarity with CAD tools and design and manufacturing of test rigs.
- Familiarity with electrical wiring CAD tools.
- Familiarity with electrical board design tools.
