Transitional Director of Music (6752)

Position Summary

FPC Dallas seeks a Transitional Director of Music who shares our expectation that good church music should be directional, leading us to places where it sounds to our souls as though every prayer has a chance to be heard; and be vibrational, as if trembling rhythmically, burdened by a weighty proclamation from God that all creation must immediately hear. As leader of the music department, including a 30–40-member choir and professional section leaders, the Director will engage and motivate staff across all program areas.

Essential Functions

• Collaborate with pastoral staff in shaping the theological and musical character of worship
• Direct the Chancel Choir in preparing for and leading worship at the 11:00 a.m. service
• Coordinate and plan musical leadership for the 8:30 a.m. Chapel service
• Direct and plan musical offerings for Advent, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter, and other significant liturgical occasions when the church gathers
• Coordinate and provide musical leadership for all weddings and memorial services
• Attend meetings of the Worship Leadership Team and Worship Committee
• Oversee the maintenance of the church’s music archives, supplies, and instruments
• Supervise music staff and coordinate volunteers
• Manage the annual worship and music budget and provide timely payroll and expense reports to the Finance Office

The ideal candidate will have:

• Strong commitment to serving Christ in a diverse faith community
• Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Sacred Music, or Bachelor of Music Education degree; advanced degrees and/or performance certificates in these areas preferred
• Minimum 5 years of training and experience
• Experience in planning and leadership of worship in the Reformed tradition
