First Presbyterian Church of Seymour, Indiana, is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and collaborative full-time pastor to help guide our congregation into its next chapter of ministry.
Located in the heart of downtown Seymour, our historic church is a welcoming, caring, and close-knit faith community with a rich heritage and a strong commitment to worship, fellowship, and service.
We are looking for a pastor who honors our traditions while bringing fresh ideas, meaningful leadership, and a passion for connecting with people of all generations.
We are not looking for one person to do everything. We are seeking a spiritual leader who will work alongside our dedicated staff, Session, and volunteers to strengthen our congregation, develop future leaders, and expand our impact throughout the community.
Founded on a tradition of faith and service, First Presbyterian Church is a congregation of approximately 100 members who value meaningful relationships, thoughtful preaching, traditional worship, music, and compassionate pastoral care.
Our beautiful historic sanctuary, completed in 1884 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as both a place of worship and a center for community engagement.
Our ministries include:
- Sweet Cheeks Diaper Pantry: Jackson County's first diaper pantry, providing free diapers, pull-ups, and wipes to families in need and serving approximately 500 children each month.
- Children, Youth & Family Ministries: Children's Church and Wednesday programming that nurture faith in younger generations, with opportunities to expand participation among children, youth, and families.
- Community Outreach: Hosting six AA/NA recovery groups throughout the week while creating opportunities for fellowship, Bible study, and community partnerships.
- Congregación Príncipe de Paz: Sharing our church campus with a Spanish-speaking Presbyterian congregation, building relationships through fellowship, hospitality, and service.
- Music & Worship: Maintaining a meaningful traditional worship experience supported by our adult choir, bell choir, and commitment to engaging, Scripture-centered preaching.
We are proud of these ministries and excited about the opportunities to strengthen them while discovering new ways to serve our community.
Our next pastor will provide spiritual leadership while partnering with church leadership, staff, and congregation members to fulfill our mission.
Key responsibilities include:
- Worship & Preaching: Plan and lead meaningful worship services, delivering engaging, biblically grounded sermons informed by Reformed theology and connected to everyday life.
- Pastoral Care: Provide compassionate spiritual support, counseling, visitation, and care to congregation members and families through life's joys and challenges.
- Congregational Leadership: Moderate Session meetings and collaborate with elders, staff, and volunteers in planning and implementing the church's ministries.
- Christian Education: Support faith formation, Bible study, and Christian education for children, youth, and adults.
- Family & Youth Engagement: Work alongside our Director of Children, Youth & Family Ministries to strengthen connections with families and encourage participation among younger generations.
- Leadership Development: Identify, encourage, and equip congregation members to serve in meaningful ministry and leadership roles.
- Community Involvement: Build relationships throughout Seymour, support community outreach programs, and represent the church as an engaged community partner.
- Congregational Growth: Help strengthen connections with existing members, welcome visitors, and create opportunities for increased participation across generations.
We seek a pastor who leads with faith, humility, warmth, and a genuine love for people.
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong foundation in Scripture and Reformed theology.
- Engaging, thoughtful preaching that connects biblical teachings with contemporary life.
- An approachable, compassionate personality and excellent listening skills.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership abilities.
- A commitment to developing relationships with members of all ages, especially children, youth, and families.
- A willingness to be actively involved in church activities and the broader Seymour community.
- An ability to encourage, empower, and support staff, elders, and volunteers.
- Cultural awareness and an appreciation for building relationships across diverse backgrounds.
- Emotional maturity, flexibility, humility, and a collaborative approach to ministry.

- English proficiency is required.
- A statement of faith is required.
- Spanish-language ability is welcomed but not required.
First Presbyterian Church is entering an exciting season of opportunity.
We desire to remain grounded in our historic Presbyterian faith and traditional worship while becoming an increasingly active, visible, and intergenerational congregation.
Our priorities include strengthening family and youth participation, deepening relationships among members, expanding community partnerships, developing lay leadership, and creating a church environment where people of all ages feel welcomed, supported, and inspired to serve.
We believe the right pastor will help us build upon our existing strengths while guiding us toward a vibrant and sustainable future.
Seymour offers the welcoming atmosphere of a small city, strong family and community connections, and convenient access to larger metropolitan areas via Interstate 65.
As a community with a rich history and growing cultural diversity, Seymour provides meaningful opportunities for a pastor who wants to build relationships and make a difference both inside and outside the church.
If you are a pastor who values meaningful relationships, collaborative leadership, thoughtful worship, and service to others, we invite you to explore this opportunity.
We look forward to welcoming a pastor who will grow alongside our congregation as we continue Loving God, Growing Together, and Serving the World.
