Position Description
Title: Youth Leader
Part-time, salaried, exempt, ministerial exception position at approximately 10-15 hours per week. Not eligible for insurance benefits per current policy. This position is a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse. Rate is $25 - $28/hour.
Purpose
To further the mission of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara by challenging and engaging the hearts and minds of Junior and Senior High School students by showing and sharing God’s love in Jesus Christ and by building healthy, long-lasting discipleship relationships.
Accountability
Reports to the Pastor as Head of Staff
Responsibilities
Support and honor our vision statements for the church and CYF including our Mission and Inclusivity statements.
· Work to engage Junior High and High school students weekly in the life of the church, including regular worship and Christian discipleship
· Plan and lead weekly Thursday evening youth group events
· Attend Friday evening Club 456/Jr High as supporting staff (2 Fridays per month)
· Plan, promote, and lead additional monthly events (date/time TBD by Youth Leader)
· Coordinate transportation for youth events
· Follow up with first-time youth visitors
· Stay informed about any events, joys, concerns, or challenges being faced by a youth and/or their family and pass information on to the youth leaders and pastors for follow up
· Attend monthly 2-hour CYF Meetings (Tuesday evening)
· Attend Sunday worship services on a regular basis and participate as requested
· Support, nurture and collaborate with the youth ministry team
· Complete new volunteer screening process with Church Business Administrator
· Pray for and with the volunteer youth leadership team
· Provide consistent clear communication with the staff, parents, youth and volunteers
· Plan logistics for youth activities
· Adhere to budget and account payable processes
· Coordinate payments for youth activities in coordination with the Church Business Administrator
· Adhere to Child & Youth Protection Policy
Evaluations
Performance review will be completed annually
Qualifications
· Love for the triune God and a maturity in faith, with a desire to inspire and lead others into the gifts of Christian faith
· A desire to live out discipleship in Jesus Christ and become familiar with the PC(USA) faith tradition over time
· Understanding of and commitment to best practices with respect to meeting with and engaging minors
· Ability to equip, teach, and lead youth in Christian practice, including the practice of worship
· Ability to collaborate with adults working with youth to ensure a cohesive and positive program

- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Pass Livescan background check and pre-employment drug screen
Skills and Experience:
· Experience working with youth

- Ability to engage in active, empathetic listening
- Time management skills and ability to prioritize
- Ability to relate and connect with youth with diverse life experiences and backgrounds
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Essential Functions
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, read and walk (up to 2 flights of stairs). The employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
