What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Musician (Organist and/or Pianist) position at First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg?
The Church Musician (Organist and/or Pianist) provides music leadership and accompaniment
for worship in a Presbyterian tradition, supporting congregational singing and enhancing the
liturgical life of the church. This individual works collaboratively with the pastor and music
leadership to plan and present music that reflects the Reformed tradition and the church’s
theology.
Key Responsibilities
Provide organ and/or piano music for weekly Sunday worship services
Accompany congregational hymns and liturgical responses
Play prelude, offertory, and postlude music appropriate to the liturgical season
Collaborate with the pastor and music leadership in selecting music aligned with the
church calendar (e.g., Advent, Lent, Easter, Pentecost)
Accompany vocalist, festival choir, and bells during rehearsals and worship (if
applicable)
Provide music for special services such as Christmas Eve, Holy Week, weddings, and
funerals
Maintain practice schedule to ensure high-quality performance
Monitor condition of instruments (organ/piano), arrange maintenance and tunings
Qualifications
Proficiency in organ and/or piano performance
Ability to read music and accompany congregational singing confidently
Experience in church music ministry preferred
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism
Preferred Skills
Ability to select or arrange music appropriate to worship themes
Basic improvisation and transposition skills
Experience accompanying choirs or small ensembles
Schedule
Weekly Sunday morning services at 8:30 am and 10:30 am
Choir, vocalist, and bell rehearsal (if applicable)
Additional seasonal and special services throughout the year
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $7,500.00 - $10,000.00 per year
