POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Assistant Facilities Manager is responsible for supporting and assisting the Facilities Manager in maintaining and ensuring the operational functionality, safety, and cleanliness of the school’s facilities. This role supports the day-to-day maintenance of the facilities, assists in repairs and installations of facility improvements, and assists in the supervising of facilities staff. This role also works closely with the Facilities Manager to maintain a safe and efficient environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Maintain equipment, buildings, and grounds in good working order.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendors providing facility services to FPA
  • Monitor emails and texts to identify projects that must be completed, including repairs.
  • Change room arrangements and seating for events.
  • Maintenance of building infrastructure systems including inspections, preventative maintenance, and daily operation.
  • Handling of campus deliveries, as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Routine maintenance on roofing, doors, windows, electrical and lighting systems, painting, flooring, and other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

  • Supportive of the whole FPA community and works collaboratively in team-oriented environments with parents, students, fellow teachers, and administrators.
  • Effective written (email) and verbal communication skills
  • Able to develop rapport with other departments, students, and parents. A supportive, service mindset is required. 
  • Work experience in a school or assisted-living environment is preferred
  • Experience in construction trades; able to either self-perform tasks or to hire and supervise subcontractors
  • Has effectively utilized preventive maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime..
  • Is willing to do hands-on tasks.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of Google email and spreadsheet software.
  • Is committed to maintaining the appropriate degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Has a calm disposition with a customer service focus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in an educational background and/or work experience in facility management is expected.
  • Education and/or experience in the skills necessary to diagnose maintenance and repair issues.
  • Skills or certifications in specific trades are strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid SC drivers license; able to pass DMV background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

This position is labor-intensive and certain physical requirements must be met to be successful

They include the ability to:

  • Must be able to evacuate students over uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions during emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. and be able to lift 25lbs. repeatedly.
  • Ability to walk over a variety of terrains and surfaces, such as sloped metal roofs, stairs, etc.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to tolerate dusty conditions, such as above drop ceilings or in the wood shop.
  • Ability to stoop, bend and maneuver in limited spaces as needed.
  • Ability to climb ladders or stairs as required.
  • Must be able to see and read English text to perform essential job functions, such as reading warning labels and operating instructions.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate effectively in order to exchange information, respond to inquiries, and provide clear instructions in person, over the phone, and through other communication methods.

 

Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
