Position Summary
The Mitigation Crew Chief is responsible for leading mitigation projects from initial emergency response through completion. This role oversees job site execution, crew supervision, customer communication, and documentation to ensure all mitigation services are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with SERVPRO standards, IICRC guidelines, and company policies.
The Crew Chief serves as the primary on-site leader and liaison between technicians, management, adjusters, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Job Site Management
- Lead water, fire, mold, and biohazard mitigation projects from start to finish
- Perform job scoping, damage assessments, and determine appropriate mitigation plans
- Monitor drying goals, equipment placement, and environmental readings
- Ensure work is completed according to IICRC standards and SERVPRO protocols
Crew Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, train, and direct Mitigation Technicians on job sites
- Assign daily tasks and ensure productivity and quality standards are met
- Enforce safety procedures, PPE usage, and job site cleanliness
- Serve as the on-site decision maker for mitigation operations
Customer & Adjuster Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers during mitigation phase
- Explain processes, timelines, and expectations clearly and professionally
- Communicate job progress and updates to management and insurance adjusters
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete accurate job documentation including moisture readings, photos, notes, and equipment logs
- Ensure documentation is entered timely into SERVPRO-approved systems
- Support billing accuracy through thorough and compliant job records
Equipment & Vehicle Management
- Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of mitigation equipment
- Load, unload, and monitor equipment inventory
- Maintain company vehicles in clean and operational condition
On-Call & Emergency Response
- Participate in rotating on-call schedule for emergency services
- Respond promptly to after-hours and weekend loss events as required
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of mitigation/restoration experience
- Prior experience leading crews or acting as a senior technician preferred
- Strong knowledge of water mitigation, drying principles, and restoration workflows
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work
Certifications (Required or Willing to Obtain)
- IICRC Water Damage Restoration (WRT) – required
- IICRC Applied Structural Drying (ASD) – preferred
- IICRC Fire & Smoke Restoration (FSRT) – preferred
- Mold or Biohazard certifications – a plus
