The Assistant Pastor assists the Senior Pastor in the execution and fulfillment of ministry at First Mount Zion Baptist Church (FMZBC). Primary responsibilities include assuming pastoral duties in the Senior Pastor’s absence, supporting in-reach ministry by building relationships with members and attending to their spiritual needs, and facilitating outreach ministry by engaging newcomers and visitors. The Assistant Pastor also provides or coordinates assistance for members’ physical needs, referring individuals to external professionals as appropriate. The role emphasizes creating a sense of community within both the church body and the surrounding area by demonstrating the love of Christ in action.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Senior Pastor in accomplishing the overall mission, vision, and fulfillment of FMZBC, including worship services, campaigns, and special projects.
- Conduct sacerdotal services alongside or, in the Senior Pastor’s absence, under the guidance of the Deacon Ministry Chairperson.
- Preach, teach, and lead worship services.
- Perform church ordinances, including baptism and Holy Communion, in the absence of the Senior Pastor.
- Manage and train Associate Ministers as guided by the Senior Pastor; conduct Leadership Ministry training as needed.
- Lead or assist with funerals, weddings, and other ministerial functions.
- Conduct hospital and home visitations; provide in-reach care for members and staff, including the sick and shut-in.
- Provide Biblical counseling to church members and refer complex matters to the Senior Pastor or external professionals as necessary.
- Manage worship and preaching assignments for Associate Ministers and Ministers in Training.
- Maintain harmonious relationships with members, staff, and the broader community.
- Provide spiritual support to a multi-generational congregation.
- Supervise and manage a full-time administrative assistant.
- Master of Divinity Degree from an ATS-accredited institution.
- Pastoral Care Certification or Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training preferred.
- Advanced preaching and teaching skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct church sacraments.
- Strong ability to develop and lead worship services.
- Ability to mentor and develop ministers pursuing their calling and academic goals.
- Proven ministerial leadership skills.
- Competency in pastoral counseling techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related technology.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong Biblical study, sermon preparation, and presentation skills.
- Advanced administrative and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and effectively.

- One to three years of managerial experience.

Travel Requirements
- Minimal travel required as directed by the Pastor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide managerial oversight to one full-time administrative assistant.
- Provide developmental oversight to Associate Ministers, schedule preaching, worship, and teaching opportunities.
