Job Summary
The Director of Church Operations provides leadership and oversight for the administrative and operational functions of First Lutheran Church. This role ensure that the church's financials systems, facilities, administrative processes, and support staff operate effectively so that the pastoral staff and ministry leaders can focus on the church's mission and ministry.

The Director of Operations works closely with the Senior Pastor, Church leadership, and staff to maintain strong operational systems, healthy team collaboration and responsible stewardship.

The Direvtor of Churh Operations plays a key leadership role in helping First Lutheran Churh pursue its mission. By ensuring strong operational systems, healthy staff coordination, and responsible stewardship of church resources, this role allows pastoral staff and ministry leaders to focus on proclaiming the Gospel and serving the congregation. The Director of Operations helps create the structure and clarity that allow ministry to flourish

Operational Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operational functions of the church
  • Supervise and support administrative, finance, and facilities staff
  • Establish clear expectations and promote healthy communication among support staff
  • Ensure operational systems and workflows support the ministries of the church
  • Work Closely wit the Senior Pastor and leadership teams to align operations with ministry priorities

Financial Oversight

  • Provide oversight of the church's financial processes and systems
  • Work closely with the finance staff member responsible for bookkeeeping and financial reporting
  • Review financial reports and help ensure financial information is accurate and timely
  • Assist the Finance, Property, and Administration Board with financial planning and budget development
  • Support the annual budgeting process and provide financial Insights to church leadership
  • Coordinate with the church auditor and ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained

Personnel and Administrative Management

  • Supervise administrative and operational staff and support their professional development
  • Oversee payroll processes, staff benefits, administration, and related personnel procedures
  • Ensure the church remains in compliance with relevant employment laws and policies
  • Assist with maintaining and updating the employee handbook and personnel policies
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment among church staff

Facilities and Property Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the care and maintenance of church buildings and property
  • Supervise the Facilities Manager and support long-term maintenance planning
  • Oversee vendor relationships, service contracts, and building-related projects
  • Ensure church facilities are well maintained, safe, and prepared for worship and ministry activities
  • Review insurance coverage and facility-related risk management practices annually

Administrative Systems and Records

  • Oversee the maintenance of official church records and reporting systems
  • Ensure required financial and tax filings are copleted accurately and on time
  • Support large-scale administrative projects such as congregational reports, major mailings, and annual reports
  • Help ensure administrative systems effectively support ministry teams and church leadership

First-Year Priorities

The Director of Operations will work with the Senior Pastor and staff to:

  • Strengthen operational systems that support ministry teams
  • Clarify roles and expectations for operational staff
  • Ensure financial reporting and budgeting processes are clear and reliable
  • Improve coordination between ministry leaders and operational support teams
  • Support long-term planning for facilities and administrative infrastructure

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience un operations, management, administration, or organizational leadership, including experience supervising staff or leading teams
  • Financial literacy and familiarity with budgeting and financial reporting
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, finace, or a related field preferred
  • Nonprofit or church leadership experience is helpful

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
