Instructor Job Summary:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Training Instructor with a strong background in any of the following: Rescue, Hazardous Materials (Hazmat), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Firefighting. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality training programs that prioritize safety, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is passionate about preparing emergency responders through scenario-based, hands-on, and classroom training. A commitment to fostering a culture of safety is critical to this role.
Instructor Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive training programs in Rescue, Hazmat, EMS, and Fire response with an emphasis on safe practices and procedures. Able to help develop and improve these training programs.
- Facilitate hands-on drills, simulations, and live fire evolutions in controlled training environments.
- Conduct initial and refresher training aligned with OSHA, NFPA, NIMS, DOT, and other relevant standards.
- Ensure training materials are up to date, compliant, and customized to client or agency needs.
- Evaluate participant performance, provide feedback, and recommend remedial instruction as needed.
- Maintain detailed training records, certifications, and course documentation.
- Collaborate with the Safety Department to integrate current safety protocols and incident learnings into training content.
- Stay current on industry best practices, standards, and innovations in emergency response and safety training.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to trainees and team members.
- Closely follow outlines provided by F.I.R.S.T
- Contacts client before first class and sets class agenda (If Lead)
- Provide quizzes to administrative staff, submit rosters, enter time for the team (If lead) by the day's end of class.
- Support lead instructor. Provide off to the side instruction for students who may need additional support without distracting class. (If second instructor)
- Operates specialized tools, instruments, and communications equipment
- Required to keep specific trainings up to date annually to stay active
- Adhere to all safety procedures both in the office and out in the field
Instructor Level I Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of field experience in Rescue, Fire Service, EMS, or Hazmat response.
- Proven experience as a training instructor or field training officer preferred.
- Preferred certifications in:
- Firefighter I & II (NFPA 1001)
- Hazmat Technician (NFPA 472/1072)
- EMT-B or higher (State or NREMT certified)
- Technical Rescue disciplines (e.g., Confined Space, Rope, Trench, Vehicle, Swiftwater)
- Strong communication, leadership, and instructional skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as training needs dictate.
- Physically fit and capable of conducting field training in demanding environments.
- Classroom training on subject matter or on job experience. (2 Years)
- Able to provide a reputable reference.
- TWIC Card (have or have applied for)
- Able to pass evaluations for all training (SSE Reviews)
- Basic Plus and Site Specifics
- Additional online trainings
- Mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing required
- Clean background check
- Current driver’s license
- Physical requirements must meet the demands that your course would require.

Position Benefits:
- Part-time employment with the ability to work full-time hours based upon personal availability submitted and company work load
- Flexibility in schedule
- Pay: (depends based on experience and certifications)
- Starting Pay:
- Instructor Level I: $40/hour
- Instructor Assistant: $30/hour
- In-House Instructor: $25/hour
- Travel Time: $25/hour
- Ability to move up to full-time status with full benefits (health insurance, PTO, sick days, bereavement days, 401k, gym reimbursement) after 1 year tenure with good performance and company demand.
