About the Role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team and lead legal affairs for our operations in the United States. This role will provide strategic legal support across a range of initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with group-wide standards. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, solution-oriented legal professional with strong project management skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and jurisdictions.

The role operates under the strategic direction of the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and works in close collaboration with the Group Legal Department to ensure alignment with group-wide legal and compliance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

US Legal Operations

  • Provide expert legal support for key strategic initiatives in the U.S., advising on legal and regulatory issues from planning through execution.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and leases where applicable.
  • Advise on U.S. regulatory compliance, including but not limited to advertising regulations, data protection, and employment law.
  • Conduct legal research and assess legal risks related to U.S. and global operations.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure the company remains compliant and forward-thinking.

Stakeholder & External Counsel Management

  • Coordinate with external legal counsel in the U.S. to manage legal matters efficiently and effectively.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and group-level stakeholders to align legal strategies with business objectives.

Group Legal & HQ Support

  • Work closely with the headquarters legal team on projects or matters delegated from time to time.
  • Support or lead internal legal training sessions to strengthen compliance awareness and legal understanding among U.S.-based teams and within the legal department.
  • Participate actively in company-wide initiatives, contributing legal insight while maintaining a business-first, solutions-oriented mindset.

Requirement

  • J.D. from an accredited university.
  • Licensed to practice law in California, or qualified in another common law jurisdiction with substantial experience in California law.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally a combination of law firm and in-house counsel roles.
  • Strong legal research and analytical capabilities, with the ability to manage projects independently and interpret complex U.S. legal frameworks.
  • Experience in the AI, gaming, or broader technology sectors is a plus, particularly with regard to data privacy, trust and safety, and child/minor protection regulations.
  • Fluency in both English and Mandarin is required, with the ability to work effectively across time zones and international teams.

Bonus Qualification

  • Demonstrated business judgment and the ability to craft creative, practical legal solutions to complex business challenges.
  • Results-driven with a strong sense of integrity and accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • A collaborative team player with a positive attitude, a proactive mindset, clear accountability for legal outcomes, and the willingness to step in wherever needed.
  • Detail-oriented, business-savvy, and capable of working under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and take ownership of projects with minimal supervision.
