Position Title: Director of Student Ministries
Type of Position: Part-time (10-15 hours/week)
Supervisor: Senior Pastor
About Student Ministry at FFUMC:
First Farragut UMC is a growing congregation in West Knox county. We are a mission-oriented church that currently averages 130 worshippers on Sunday mornings. Our youth ministry is relaunching after several students graduated last year. We have two committed students that are ready to build a youth group where their friends not only have fun but grow in their faith. The primary time for student ministry gatherings is 4pm on Sunday afternoons.
Position Summary:
The Director of Student Ministries (DSM) supports the mission and ministries of FFUMC by working alongside the Director of Family Ministries to help students (grades 6–12; college) and their families grow in faith, community, and discipleship. The DSM will lead and coordinate student programming, nurture relationships with student and their families, and equip volunteers for ministry, all within the scope of a collaborative and Christ-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Weekly Student Programming
Plan, promote, and implement age-appropriate weekly gatherings for students that foster faith formation, fellowship, and service.
- Plan and Support Special Events
Help organize and attend retreats, mission opportunities, and seasonal events (e.g., Confirmation, summer activities, Advent/Lenten events) for students.
- Build Relationships
Foster meaningful connections with students and their families to support spiritual growth, encourage participation, and deepen community ties.
- Recruit and Equip Volunteers
Identify, train, and support adult volunteers who mentor and lead students, ensuring Safe Sanctuaries guidelines are upheld.
- Communicate Effectively
Maintain consistent and clear communication with students, parents, volunteers, and church staff through email, text, social media, and in-person updates.
- Support Administrative and Financial Oversight
Track student ministry expenses, submit receipts and budget updates, and collaborate with the Finance Committee for responsible stewardship.
- Promote a Safe and Welcoming Environment
Ensure compliance with FFUMC’s Safe Sanctuaries Policy and foster an inclusive, respectful, and spiritually nurturing environment.
- Collaborate with Staff and Church Leaders
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and church-wide events as needed to integrate student ministries into the broader life of the church.
- Other Duties as Assigned
Carry out additional responsibilities that support the ministry and mission of FFUMC, as agreed upon with the Senior Pastor.
Qualifications:
- A professing Christian who demonstrates a growing personal faith and commitment to the mission of the church.
- High school diploma required; college coursework or degree in ministry, education, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience working with student or in church ministry settings is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to pursue ongoing training and professional development.
- Must complete and maintain CPR certification (provided if needed).
- Must pass a background check and complete Safe Sanctuaries training.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting (up to 35 lbs) of supplies or equipment may be required.
- Evening and weekend availability expected for regular programming and special events.
Supervision and Evaluation:
The Director of Student Ministries reports to the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). The position begins with a 90-day probationary period. Success in this role will be measured by the health, growth, and engagement of student ministry and the strength of relationships developed with students, families, and volunteers.

Pay: $10,000.00 - $13,000.00 per year
