A top environmental testing lab in Naperville is looking for an analyst to work in their organics lab performing extraction and preparation of soil and water samples using a wide variety of EPA methods. Your responsibilities would include preparing, weighing, shaking separatory funnels, evaporating extracts, and making other measurements. You will be working on a team with other analysts in a high through-put environment. Training in the methods and lab safety will be part of your initial experience.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in science, enjoy lab work, be able to multi-task, have an attention to detail, and be self-motivated with a focus on quality. This is a permanent full-time position with a generous benefits package.


Job Description

The primary responsibilities of this position are to prepare and analyze environmental samples for a wide variety of analytical measurements. It is the responsibility of Analyst to ensure that high quality data is produced using prescribed methods and standard operating procedures, and that this data is analyzed and reported in a timely manner to meet client deadlines.

Education And Experience Requirements

·        Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline.

·        Ability to multi-task, be organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem-solving skills

·        Ability to take ownership for meeting goals, objectives and deadlines


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Necessary to Perform Essential Functions:

Knowledge of basic math and simple algebra; general knowledge of computers, word processing, and spreadsheet software.


Ability to work safely with laboratory equipment and chemicals; ability to understand and to follow set procedures, instructions, and safety rules; ability to learn and to accurately perform a variety of laboratory analyses; ability to understand and follow quality assurance protocols; ability to maintain accurate and legible records; ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; ability to safely handle laboratory equipment and delicate glassware and instruments; ability to read analytical results and record data.


Supplemental Information

General Physical Characteristics:  Work involves long periods of standing while preparing, extracting, and concentrating environmental samples. Work involves handling specialized glassware, pipettes, balances, and extraction systems.

You must be able to lift, carry, and move sample containers, solvents, and lab equipment weighing up to 30 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Work involves occasional bending, reaching, or stooping to access storage shelves or cabinets.


Vision Requirements: The minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, visual inspection involving distinguishing colors, and measuring liquids, weights or distances.


Equipment Essential to the Job: Separatory funnels, Soxhlet extractors, Accelerated solvent extractors, N2 blow-down apparatus, analytical balance, pan balance, fume hood, refrigerator, freezer, drying oven, thermometers, pipettes, micro-pipettor, glassware, hazardous chemicals and materials, flammable storage, safety equipment, calculator, personal computer, spreadsheet software, word processing software, database software, computer printer, MSDS documentation, laboratory SOP and Quality Control manuals, Standard Methods, EPA Methods, and personnel policies manual.
