Duties
- Lead and supervise nursing staff across multiple departments, including medical-surgical units, intensive care units (ICU), emergency departments, long-term care facilities, and specialized units such as geriatrics, behavioral health, pediatrics, and assisted living.
- Coordinate patient assessments, ensuring thorough physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and accurate medical documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Oversee medication administration, IV infusion procedures, catheter care, tube feeding management, and sterile processing protocols to ensure patient safety and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage complex clinical procedures such as airway management, ventilator support, cardiac catheterization assistance, spinal taps, gastrostomy care, and phlebotomy.
- Implement and monitor nursing workflows aligned with regulatory standards including NCQA standards and OSHA infection control guidelines.
- Facilitate discharge planning, case management activities, utilization review, and utilization management to optimize patient care pathways and resource utilization.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by conducting staff evaluations, providing mentorship in areas like ICD-10/ICD-9 coding accuracy, CPT coding for procedures like suturing or ophthalmology interventions, and supporting professional development.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations including Workers' Compensation Law and occupational health standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans for patients with complex needs such as dementia care or memory care residents.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to intake assessments, laboratory results, diagnostic evaluations such as sonography or medical imaging reports.
- Lead infection control initiatives and ensure aseptic techniques are rigorously followed during all clinical procedures.
- Support staff in emergency situations by managing airway emergencies or acute pain episodes using advanced life support skills.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems proficiently to document patient care activities accurately while safeguarding patient privacy under HIPAA guidelines.
Experience
- Proven leadership experience supervising nursing teams within acute care hospitals or long-term care facilities.
- Extensive clinical background in critical care environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers; ICU experience is highly valued.
- Demonstrated expertise in a variety of specialties including medical-surgical nursing, geriatrics (including dementia and Alzheimer’s care), behavioral health, pediatrics (including neonatal ventilator management), or home care settings.
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology fundamentals, diagnostic evaluation techniques (e.g., spinal taps), and medication administration protocols.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth; experience with ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding for procedures like suturing or cardiac catheterization is preferred.
- Experience managing staff through supervising roles involving nurse management responsibilities; ability to foster teamwork and professional growth is essential.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations including NCQA standards and Workers' Compensation Law ensures compliance across all operations.
- Skilled in triage processes for urgent cases in emergency medicine settings; capable of handling complex cases involving airway management or ventilator support efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including people with disabilities or developmental challenges; experience working with children or neonatal patients is advantageous.
