The Mortgage Loan Officer position is a key role at First Community and affords a rewarding career with competitive pay and excellent benefits. Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years’ experience in mortgage lending and two years of consumer or mortgage loan origination experience. Secondary market lending experience and knowledge of mortgage lending regulations and TRID is preferred. Familiarity with Byte loan origination software is a plus. Must be able to obtain NMLS license.

A successful candidate should demonstrate a positive attitude, professional image, and be self-motivated. They should also have the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy. Oral and written communication skills are vital to success in this position and are required.

Essential Functions:

  • Originate secondary market quality real estate loans, including analyzing borrower data and determining the correct loan program for each applicant.
  • Confidentially interview loan applications with using exceptional member service skills during the loan process. Develop lasting financial relationships with new and existing members.
  • Use Byte software to input application and obtain preliminary approval using Fannie Mae’s Desktop Underwriter AUS.
  • Understand and apply all Federal and investor guidelines. This includes a working knowledge of TRID and the ability to disclose loan documents accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance.
  • Work closely with processing team to ensure a seamless loan process for each borrower and, when applicable, realtor. This includes introducing parties to all staff involved in the loan process, working together with processing staff to obtain supporting documentation efficiently and effectively keeping all parties to the loan up-to-date on the loan process.
  • Reaching out to local communities to develop good working relationships with realtors, builders, and vendors. This may be accomplished virtually depending on the distance.
  • Adheres to established internal policies and procedures for compliance. Completes required compliance training in a timely manner and complies with all regulations within scope of the position including maintaining NMLS licensure.
  • Adheres to the bank secrecy Act, OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act and anti-money laundering regulation.
  • Accurately completes Currency Transaction Reports, follows internal procedures to report suspicious activity to the BSA Department, and collects required information to comply with the Customer Identification/Due Diligence Program and to meet other record keeping requirements defined by the Bank Secrecy Act.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in daily interactions and work functions.
  • Represent the Credit Union with honesty, integrity and trust at all times.
  • Promote an atmosphere of teamwork throughout the Credit Union.
  • Demonstrate an exceptional knowledge of the Credit Union’s loan policy and loan program.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of all the Credit Union’s products and services and recommend or cross-sell additional services when applicable. This includes insurance, investment services and all of our retail banking products and services.
  • Possess a detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software applications that is adequate to perform the duties assigned.
  • Ability to solve problems by analyzing data and using logic as well as make sound decisions within the responsibility level of the position.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform basic accounting and math skills.
  • Maintain punctuality while adhering to the assigned work schedule.
  • Attend all required meetings unless prior approval is granted.

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to the threat of violence at any time.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time may be required.
  • Repetitive motions and extensive keyboarding may be required.
