Position SummaryThe 1st Class Mechanic works in the Box Shop supporting customer equipment repairs on containers. This position performs structural repairs on company equipment, fabricates special project items as required, and maintains a professional customer service demeanor while on the job. Employees are expected to demonstrate leadership qualities and maintain excellent physical condition.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Operate equipment in a manner that is safe and efficient and report all maintenance items immediately.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all shipping containers using IICL standards as a guide.
- Perform welding and cutting for extensive container repairs in accordance with IICL standards.
- Cut and replace container floor wood.
- Perform cutting and measuring while working with pneumatic and electrical power tools.
- Receive constant supervisory direction from the Lead Mechanic.
- Maintain excellent physical condition.
- Be proficient in EAM maintenance and parts management software.
- Maintain welding certification.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- IICL Dry Box credentials preferred.
- AWS Welding Certification preferred.
- At least two years of verifiable experience.
- Certified and proficient in operating forklifts of all sizes.
- Proficient in the use of basic hand tools.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Above-average hand-eye coordination.
While performing the duties of this position, employees are required to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Use hands to handle, feel, and manipulate tools and equipment.
- Bend, kneel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Lift up to 60 pounds on an intermittent basis.
- Work in physically demanding weather conditions, including extreme heat.
This position is performed primarily outdoors and employees will be exposed to changing environmental conditions.
Employees are expected to work in stormy weather, excluding lightning conditions, as well as in extreme heat and below-freezing temperatures.
