We are seeking a Trainer for the NIH contract supporting the Bethesda, MD, and surrounding area to provide initial and refresher training to ensure all required training requirements are met. The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding duties while conducting firearms instructions, practical exercises, field evaluations, and classroom training. Frequent travel throughout assigned contract area is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct required training programs for new hires and current employees.
  • Monitor, evaluate, or record training activities for program effectiveness.
  • Offer specific training programs to help workers maintain or improve job skills; develop alternative training methods if expected improvements are not seen.
  • Organize and develop, or obtain, training procedure manuals and course materials such as handouts and visual materials.
  • Present information using a variety of instructional techniques or formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures.
  • Evaluate training materials prepared by instructors, such as outlines, text, or handouts.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections to include security screening operations at federal facilities.
  • Provide instruction for new hires and current employees as required to maintain and improve marksmanship skills.
  • Responsible for all aspects of quality control under the contract.
  • Monitor compliance with contract requirements, post orders, and training requirements.
  • Identify operational deficiency and provide recommendation for corrective action.
  • Assist with internal audits.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation related to qualify assurance.
  • Develop and enforce QA/QC plans to ensure quality.
  • Develop an inspection process based on the contract requirements while performing and documenting inspections, analyzing the resulting data, and submitting the data to the Director of Quality Control.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and read, write, and speak English.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of training and field supervision experience in civilian community law enforcement, military service law enforcement, or commercial/industrial security force service.
  • Certified Firearms Instructor (NRA, POST, FLETC, DOD, or equivalent)
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR/AED, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing, Baton, OC Spray, and Firearms.
  • Must be able to safely operate and demonstrate firearms and related law enforcement/security equipment.
  • Must be able to effectively demonstrate defensive tactics, handcuffing procedures, use of force techniques, and other security-related skills as required.
  • Must be able to visually observe and evaluate trainee performance, weapons handling, and safety compliance.
  • Must be able to respond effectively to and manage emergency situations occurring during training activities.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate effectively in classroom, range, and operational environments.
  • Must be physically capable of meeting and maintaining all requirements necessary to perform duties associated with a Protective Security Officer (PSO) position, including firearms qualification and any contractual required medical or physical standards.

Working and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed at federal facilities, training environments, firing ranges, and office settings
  • Position requires standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday including while conducting classroom instruction, practical exercises, inspections, and firearms training.
  • Position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs during training activities, site assessments, and practical exercises.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and transport training materials, equipment, ammunition, targets, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • May involve exposure to loud noise levels during firearms training
  • Must be able to wear and utilize required personal protective equipment, including body armor, hearing protection, eye protection, and duty gear.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during firearms qualifications, practical exercises, and field training events.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods while preparing lesson plans, completing reports, maintaining records, and conducting administrative duties.
  • Must be able to travel frequently throughout the assigned contract area to conduct training, inspections, audits, and field evaluations.
