Job Description: Medical Assistant
Overview
The medical assistant is required to assist our providers with patient assessments, examinations, diagnosis and treatment, while working closely with patients who are sick and/or injured. Interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (e.g., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight height) and managing the process of patient records and charts are all daily responsibilities. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to drawing and collecting blood samples from patients and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis. The medical assistant will also prepare treatment rooms in anticipation for doctor-patient visitation.
Responsibilities
- Manage front desk and check-in patients for appointments.
- Verify patient’s insurance coverage and eligibility.
- Manage telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments and procedures.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examination.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs and document all information in patient's chart.
- Assist with examinations and routine procedures.
- Perform nursing procedures under supervision of provider and assist provider in exam rooms.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments and prepare required sterilization.
- Act as a conduit for information between providers and patients to ensure patient adherence related to providers’ post-care and pre-care instructions.
- Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure reports, labs and information are filled in ordinance with company standards and state regulations.
- Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and extenders/mid-levels.
- Maintain all logs and required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change).
- Perform additional duties as assigned by clinical coordinator or practice administrator.
Qualifications Desired
- Strong knowledge base of medical assisting patients in a primary care setting.
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections.
- Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.
- Reliable, responsible and highly organized.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients, employees and the public.
- Ability to meet and exceed timelines.
- Detail oriented.
- Practice Management Software proficient.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Formal Training as Medical Assistant / Completion of Medical Assistant Program

Clinic Operating Hours
- Monday – Friday: 9 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 5 PM
Hours
- Expected hours: 40 hours per week
- 8 hour shifts
- Medical Assistants will work 3-4 Saturdays per month; if the Medical Assistant is scheduled for Saturday, there will be an off day during the period from Monday – Friday
